I've often wondered if the "someone else did it" defense claim could be related to the graduate research survey that BK posted on Reddit during his final semester at DeSales. Although the responses to the survey questions were supposed to be directed to DeSales University research faculty, it's possible that some respondent(s) replied directly to BK instead through his Reddit account. Could this be related to BK's asking, upon his arrest in Pennsyvania, if anyone else was arrested besides him? Of course this is a catch-22 situation, because if BK had struck up a relationship with a killer online then this doesn't absolve him of the murder, just gives him an accomplice, or makes him an accomplice. Just something that I've sometimes thought about.
Maybe his question to police “was anyone else arrested” with blank stare, was purely to shift blame.

I reckon they're gonna try blame that dude who was shot not long after the crime, can't remember his name.

How, I dunno but there's whoppers on the tiktok who wear tin foil tiaras who have helped fuel that utter fantasy 😑
I agree that could be who they are trying to play. The former Army Vet (Brent Kopacka) that lived close by in Pullman who was shot and killed by a Swat team during a standoff in Dec 2022.

At 3:58 am on Thursday, December 15, 2022, a SWAT team in Pullman, WA shot and killed Brent Lee Kopacka after an armed standoff that started the evening before when Kopacka threatened to kill his roommates. According to Kopacka’s obituary, he died as a result of a traumatic brain injury sustained in combat in Afghanistan which led to a 16-year ongoing battle with severe PTSD.

Later the same day, Bryan Kohberger and his father were driving in Indiana on their way home from WSU in Pullman when police pulled them over twice for tailgating. During the first traffic stop, the two men mention the Pullman shooting, which you can hear in this body cam footage:

The shooting took place a little over a month after the Moscow murders. Brent Kopacka lived (and died) in the Coffee House apartments in Pullman, directly en route between Bryan Kohberger’s Steptoe Village apartment and the Idaho murder house at 1122 King Rd in Moscow.

These facts fueled speculation that Kopacka was involved in the Moscow murders. I applaud Jennifer Coffindaffer’s efforts to defend Kopacka and hope he is not Anne Taylor’s alternative suspect.

Fourth District Judge Steven Hippler ordered prosecutors and defense attorneys on Wednesday to give him a list of everyone - including staffers, law enforcement officers and defense consultants - who might have had access to the previously unreported information about Kohberger's internet search history and other details that were featured in an NBC "Dateline" episode that aired May 9.

The judge said he would be open to appointing a special prosecutor to track down the leak, which likely violated a gag order that has been in place since 2023.

And the question is since that is a recent concern, will they need to turn off cameras while he is testifying in this trial.

This is my concern. BT asked the question and judge H didn't seem so inclined, which I believe is wrong.
There is no need to jeopardise any undercover operations or potentially risk harm to an agent by showing their face on a livestream just to satisfy the public interest IMO

Bryan Kohberger judge is discussing how the trial will go. He tells lawyers "I am not a fan of surprises, as you may have figured out by now."He doesn't want evidence issues to come up during the trial. Says nothing frustrates jurors more than delays during trial.

Defense says they have also inspected the model. Anne Taylor is asking where the model will be stored when it is not being used.Judge says they won't keep the model in the courtroom when it is not being used.

11:40 AM · May 15, 2025

Kohberber prosecutor says they created a model of the murder house. It is now in the courthouse.Prosecutor apologizes for previously calling it the "dollhouse" model. Says that was not an appropriate term to use considering what happened there.

Kohberger judge says he received the defense's filing about "alternate perpetrators."He says it will be sealed. He is asking for additional information -- wants more evidence to support the allegations.

11:44 AM · May 15, 2025

Judge has set a hearing on June 18th to discuss alternate perpetrators.
Will give the state a chance to respond.I assume this one will be closed.

11:46 AM · May 15, 2025

Bryan Kohberger judge is discussing juror questionnaires. They are drafting up a document that will weed out jurors based on what they know about the case. Then -- defense and prosecution will be able to review the responses.

11:51 AM · May 15, 2025

The process of picking a jury will not be live streamed, the judge says.Public will be able to watch in a room inside the courthouse. But that process will not be live streamed.

12:03 PM · May 15, 2025

Discussion now is how they will pick Bryan Kohberger's jury. Media bias, what they know about the case, and views on the death penalty will all be important with questioning.

12:03 PM · May 15, 2025

Judge says Bryan Kohberger trial will go Monday-Friday.8:45am - 3:30pmAugust 11th start dateExpected to go 3 months.

12:16 PM · May 15, 2025

Unclear at what point jurors could be sequestered - but judge has brought it up several times.
Likely during deliberations, maybe before.Sequestered is when jurors are put in a hotel and can't have outside contact.

12:17 PM · May 15, 2025

In addition to reserved seats for victims family and Kohberger family -- judge says he is reserving two seats for the surviving roommates during the trial.Says he is not sure they will want to attend.

12:24 PM · May 15, 2025

Kohberger judge says there will be a website the public can go to -- and the first number that reserves seats each day will get into the trial that day.Similar to Lori Vallow trial.

12:25 PM · May 15, 2025

Kohberger judge says he intends to live stream the trial -- same way it is streamed now.Views:Counsel table.Podium.Witness stand. And bench. No closeups, judge says. Just the static views controlled by the court.

12:26 PM · May 15, 2025

Kohberger prosecutor is asking judge to shut down the video live stream when the surviving roommates testify.
Judge agrees -- and says if victim requests it, face will not be shown. Audio only.

12:30 PM · May 15, 2025

Defense is asking for other witnesses to also have their faces not shown.Judge will think about it - but doesn't seem inclined.

12:31 PM · May 15, 2025

Judge is warning lawyers to be polite during Kohberger trial. Doesn't want any accusations in front of the jury. Says tensions rise, but must always be professional and refer to each side as Ms. and Mr. This judge is very strict and does not mess around.

1:32 PM · May 15, 2025

Kohberger judge says the intent is not to sequester the jury -- but that could change during the trial.Sequestering a jury is a very big deal - it means putting them in hotels and limiting their contact with the outside world.Imagine having to go into a hotel for 3 months.

Public portion of the Kohberger hearing is over. After lunch, they will resume in secret to discuss the juror questionnaires.

I have a big advantage over most people evaluating BK's intelligence because I teach college kids. Even with the best of them at the end of their undergraduate years, they are hardly experts in a field. And while I think there are good online master's degrees, I know firsthand the difference between finishing an MA or MS, even in person at a top university, and finishing a doctoral program. I was PhD student and I've taught PhD students. They too are not experts in any field--yet. PhD students are often good at doing school. It doesn't mean that they are great critical thinkers. Many of them finish the coursework but can't conceive a dissertation project and end up "ABD," all but dissertation. (I took me forever, it seemed!). It seems likely to me that BK has already decided his real project. The failures he experienced so swiftly in the doctoral program (actually face-to-face with other people) may have brought that project to the top of his list.
Thank you for the insights! I wouldn't describe Kohberger as necessarily good at doing school. After reading his paper, I think he must be good at intimidating instructors into giving him the high grade that he wants. The quality of his paper, explaining a linear sequential descriptive process written in first person about "the woman", is juvenile at best.

She is "the woman"; not the victim, the deceased, the decedent, the subject ... consistently: the woman. He is imagining how to commit murder and avoid detection.

"I must use new, clean packaging that was not previously used as to avoid contamination." Redundant. New means clean, new means not previously used. New does not mean absence of contamination, as that can occur at any stage of evidence collection and analysis. What he should say is: To reduce the possibility of contamination, sterile collections containers must be used.

If he planned his murders like he wrote his paper, he has to murder "the woman", to make sure she's dead, she's no longer breathing, she's not moving, she can't walk, as to avoid detection. Disorganized, wordy, redundant and a bit ridiculous. New information that he "carved" the legs of one of his victims is consistent with a spiraling redundant thought of ensuring that he is dead and no longer walking.

I think I was wrong in believing that he targeted one victim. Multiple victim killing was more likely the primary objective, and that fixation blinded him to flaws throughout his pre-planning, stalking, and post-murder decisions. He left so many clues that he ought to have known he would be arrested, but no degrees or years of criminal behaviour education prevented him from making one stupid mistake after the other. His thinking is too immature and disorganized. I doubt he could organize a dinner party without having to go grocery shopping during the meal.

I find the "alternate perpetrator" theory from the defence interesting. Before DNA analysis was invented, it was unfortunately more common for tunnel vision to kick in and convict the innocent. That is, investigators decided on the most likely suspect, and built an argument to convict that person. That's less common today.

Investigators should follow the evidence, and the arrest of Kohberger seems to do that. It is the defence that is pursuing the route of tunnel vision by picking a suspect they prefer, and trying to build an argument that their suspect is guilty. It has Kohberger's fingerprints all over it. He starts with the end result, which is to convict someone else for the murders, then backtracks to concoct links between that person and the murders.

"Defence took the step of pointing the finger at another suspect.

Who this suspect is
and what evidence the defense has that could tie them to the brutal murders
remains a mystery.

The judge ordered
that the filing remains under seal, keeping it cloaked in secrecy until trial.

Judge Hippler gave Kohberger's attorneys a deadline of May 23
to hand over
'whatever actual evidence you have that supports those allegations other than just allegations'.

He also ordered the defence
to 'provide for me how it is you believe that what you're offering is admissible' at trial.

The state will then have until June 6
to respond to the defence claims,
before the two sides battle it out in a hearing later that month.

The judge will then rule
whether or not the jury can hear about this alternate suspect at trial."

Sounds like what the defense has, is pretty flimsy to me.
