Agree, he could have dug one on any of the 23 previous passes by the house before the ground was frozen. He didn't have to wait until that night. IMO
There really isn't anyplace that is inconspicuous where a dude with a shovel could dig in the neighborhoods surrounding the King Road property. Perhaps in the UI Arboretum but that area has some pretty decent patrols too...keeps the fraternity guys away from going there and doing mischievous things, especially around XMas time and stealing their trees from there. Trees are sprayed with a stinky stinky skunk musk to avoid that. LOL, I digress. Golf course is a no go as well, it's heavily patrolled. Plus, President Green's house is in those areas as well, so more eyes on those adjacent areas where a stash hole could have been made on the UI campus.

Well there would have been crops growing and the field would be harvested later in the summer. If the ground was fallow a big hole would be pretty obvious. Also, he'd have to park on the road and then walk pretty far into a field to dig. Knowing how farmers literally know every inch of their grounds and that includes areas left for a few trees, etc. I just don't think he'd be successful to hide those things in a hole pre-dug.
I am thinking the back of a pull out by a tree break near or off old Moscow Rd. or similar, like a wash near a road junction.
Another poster included a modern take on the old criminal hiding hole, digging a hole just big enough for a foot of PVC pipe, sinking it in with plug in top, then dirt.

Totally agree.

He HAD to hide the knife (in his mind), IMO he'd want to come back later to "visit" it, caress it, whatevs. His primo trophy. I think he buried it. The clothes and mask he could just throw in some dumpster. If he'd been planning since March when he bought the KaBar, that hole would have been dug much earlier, and dumpsters surveilled so he would know if he should use a black trash bag or a white one, presence of security cams, traffic and foot traffic, etc.

Here is a link to an instructable, for those not familiar with PVC piping.
How BK may have hidden his Ka-Bar
I was thinking exactly this (being a geocacher myself), but I made mine with abs black and a clean out end. Looked totally normal. And I also thought of one possible extra step. There are some old cemeteries out there. If you took a pipe, put it in near a headstone with a lid from a cemetery vase, no one would be the wiser.

Being in geocache mode, hiding places could be: open cinderblocks, spaces between walls, woodpiles, storage sheds way in the back, up in a tree (because people don't look up when they are searching), possibly under a mobile home (there was a park around there somewhere), and the refrigerator's freezer (which I hope they checked). Also, if there was a trash can out on that road, easy dump in one of those or storage area dumpsters that would have been emptied long before anyone was looking south of Moscow.

Kohberger defense must file evidence for other suspects in Idaho murder trial

But Hippler warned the defense that it needed to provide two things by the end of next week: evidence, rather than just allegations, and an argument to support the admissibility of its case. The judge said the defense’s information was “potentially fairly objectionable in terms of admissibility.”

With Kohberger in attendance in a white shirt and striped tie, Hippler directed the defense to file additional briefs by May 23, and prosecutors to respond by June 6. Hippler scheduled a hearing on the matter for June 18.

It’s not the first time Kohberger’s defense has raised the possibility of an alternative perpetrator or perpetrators. Lead defense attorney Anne Taylor told the court last month that her team is investigating a tip about a different suspect. A defense expert who may testify at trial believes the crime would have required two perpetrators and two weapons, she said.

Exactly that. Although in some cases, the alternates aren’t chosen until right before deliberations. No one knows their status.

That looks like what will happen in this case.

According to CNN:

Hippler decided there will be eight alternates and told counsel he wants a pool of between 50 to 55 final jurors, from which 12 jurors and eight alternates – totaling 20 jurors – will be selected. Alternates will not be decided until deliberations, and a lottery will determine the alternates.

So I guess twenty people will be selected as jurors and participate fully in trial. When it’s time to deliberate, eight alternates will be randomly selected from the group of 20.

Will the alternates attend deliberations but not say anything, unless a juror has to drop out for some reason? And how do they decide which of the alternates takes that juror's place?

Defence suggestions that they have alternate suspects and tips that are unrelated to the police investigation is odd. Why would someone report a tip to a defence lawyer? ... because the police investigated and were able to dismiss the tip? Is the tip regarding alternate suspects from their client? Who is the tipster?

When following the evidence, how do they end up with their alternate suspect?

Regarding two suspects, what do eye-witnesses think about that? Even if the defence theory is that there were two people in the house that day, that does not mean that Kohberger did not murder the roommates.

Something I've always wondered - how was BK so sure that none of the adjacent properties had a CCTV camera or ring doorbell or dashcam or wildlife tracking camera or any form of recording device whatsoever that incidentally covered whole swathes of his activities? it's quite remarkable there wasn't more footage of him parking up and entering / leaving isn't it? Did he even care about being seen?

Arrogant, arrogant, arrogant for sure! But now watching him "dumbed down" in no suitcoat. hunched and drawn, sitting with or on his hands is just as obnoxious.

I don't get Ted Bundy vibes off him in the courtroom, now or when he first appeared. The photo of Bry Baby in the link above reminds me of Jens Söring in his younger years while on trial -

And here is Jens Söring now:

Investigators seem to know the path BK drove after the murders and prior to returning to Pullman. Do any of you remember the Sydney Loofe murders and how a detective used cell phone data to determine the exact route, speed, stops etc made by Aubrey Trail and Bailey Boswell while they were disposing of Sydney’s body parts. The technique he used guided detective to the actual spots within 40 ft of the garbage bags disposed of. This was a few years back- this method might lead them to the knife and other evidence if he buried them.

Have followed/read about this case without commenting very much; but did anyone watch Dateline's episode about the murders ?
And if so, what do you think ?
The news about the temp roommate, the college student-- was new to me.
Eeek !
Glad she is ok.

Watch Dateline Episode: The Terrible Night on King Road - NBC.com
Thanks so much for the link! I’m able to re-watch the episode with it.

I’m picturing a law clerk for the defense poring over messages on some Proberger FB page looking for “tips”. Jmo.

Absolutely! If one watches some older YouTubes of Gray Hughes', he will show what he believes to be the long drive BK made, when he had his phone turned off. He did the drive himself, I think along with his son. BK drove miles out his way, really rural areas, not all farmland, just land not used for anything. No chance of being dug up for crops. Only problem would be getting his car off the road while he dug.

SleuthieGoosie has reportedly sent several tips to Anne Taylor. There was a disagreement within a clique of Kohberger supporters, with one them disclosing that she had been in contact with the defense team. Sleuthie did the same thing with Richard Allen, as documented by the Murder Sheet podcast.

BBM

If a juror has to drop out or be dismissed, the judge chooses the alternate. When I was an alternate, I was chosen because I was one of the 2 last jurors picked for the case.
The alternates are told to leave, they don't attend the deliberations, but they must be available in case they are needed to serve. If an alternate does become seated, the jurors must begin deliberations from the beginning.

As to the May 23rd deadline for AT & Co. to submit admissible evidence to back up the alternative perpetrator,
wonder who she’s proferred as AP? I’m not on any SM, only follow cases on WS and occasionally check out some YouTube videos on cases I follow when time allows but find most to be disappointing with many grifters thinking they’re smarter than the LE task forces investigating the cases. There are some good, respectable ones but I find they are few and far between and not the norm. The vast majority and some of their followers/commenters are a cesspool of lack of logical, critical thinking, don’t understand evidence or how these cases and LE work, proferring misinformation and unfounded ridiculous conspiracy theories galore.

I certainly hope AT is not getting any tips/ideas from any of the SM platform and/or myriad YouTube grifters on the interwebs touting and spouting a bunch of conspiracies and manufactured non-evidence.
I mean take your pick conspiracy- the 2 surviving roommates, a deceased veteran BK, frat brothers, drug dealers/drug cartel hit, LE/prosecutors frame job. I find those who blame DM & BF to be the most disgusting, makes me so mad and sad for these two young ladies’ after all they’ve endured these past few years, and a bunch of moronic grifters blaming and shaming them all over the interwebs SMDH, imo those that spout and engage in blaming/shaming DM & BF are abominable and shameless creatures.

I don’t know if B Kohberger and the deceased veteran BK mentioned upthread knew each other but if they did and had any interactions with each other, I mean the guy is an easy target as he’s no longer here to be able to defend himself, AT might proffer the deceased veteran (RIP) as the alternative perp/killer who somehow got a hold of/stole BK’s knife sheath and wiped it clean of his own DNA but left BK’s DNA on the snap of the sheath and planted it/left it at the scene on purpose to frame BK?? Then how will she explain all the other damning evidence pointing directly to her client BK??? Are they gonna say the alt perp also stole BK’s car and phone and turned off BK’s phone during the murder window???

I mean, if you’re trying to frame someone for a horrific massacre, pretty sure if you had their phone with you, you’d leave it on during the murder window to further implicate them, and will they also claim the alt perp fits DM’s description of the intruder/killer??? And BK never reported his sheath, his car and/or phone stolen???? Or will she say it’s all just coincidence that BK just happened to be driving around at the exact time of the murders, with his phone off? why?? Did he always do that, I doubt it! And the alt perp drives a similar car to BK’s has a similar sheath with BK’s DNA on it and left it at the crime scene to frame BK?? No matter who AT proffers as alternative perpetrator, she still has to deal with all the glaring damning evidence against her client. Maybe she’s going to claim her client BK was there but wasn’t the murderer, was just the driver/along for the ride, or something?? Who knows but I’m over here SMDH over all this cluster&$@&ery.

I realize it’s premature and maybe the deceased veteran isn’t who AT & Co. have already or will be proferring as alternative suspect, let’s just say I wouldn’t be surprised at all if is the case though because the guy’s no longer around to defend himself and easy target to use to plant reasonable doubt, just my own speculation.

At any rate, we’ll know for sure next week if AT submits valid/admissable evidence per Judge’s order but I imagine if she does, the name and evidence will likely remained sealed until trial?? Especially since what happened with the recent Dateline episode leaks upsetting the Judge, I think the alternative suspect’s name and any evidence submitted by AT, if any, will remain sealed until possibly the next hearings in June, that is only IF, if, if, if Judge Hippler allows any of it in.

I guess we’ll see but won’t be holding my breath thinking this is anything more than last ditch effort by AT & Co. to throw more spaghetti at the wall since they’ve tried just about everything else and failed miserably.

Yes I know it’s their job to offer their client a vigorous defense but if they start accusing innocent and/or dead people of being responsible, that’s a bridge too far and I’m glad knowing Judge H runs a tight ship and ain’t gonna let baseless allegations without any valid evidence and admissibility argument to back them up, fly.

How far back does the gag order go?

What if the leaks aren't leaks at all? But LE insiders talking to private investigator outsiders before gag orders were in place? What if Dateline vetted sources independently, old screenshots, named colleagues and party goers, sort of a parallel investigation. Maybe they've held it under advisement for a very long time... and aired it now, for impact...

Dateline isn't out to jeopardize justice nor capsize the State's case or anybody's careers. No doubt that episode was scrutinized by their own legal team so... I'm thinking it was built with information gathered long before the judge shut it down.

I said the same further back. Great minds and all that...

The gag order was from Jan 3, 2023 limiting what prosecutors, the defense and other authorities can tell the media. Then it was expanded to apply to attorneys for witnesses, the victims and their families.
