But that's just it. If it was a selfie sent to his parents, to celebrate his ability to dress himself, it's still a photo taken mere hours after slaughtering four young people. Akin to criminals in the Sonic drive-thru for post-murder munchies. It's the contrast that is creepy.

I just don't put much money on it being proof of his ghoulishness. We have so much other proof of that--I'm no Kohberger cheerleader.

I'm pale as snow, and since I grew up long before cell phones, I have not mastered (nor even have the desire to) the skill of selfies. Whenever I take them, I tend to look like I just got out of Azkaban after 10 years--esp if my allergy induced dark under eye circles are in full flare.. I at least have the self awareness to not attempt selfies in a room with fluorescent or very bright lighting unless I want people asking me if I've been tested for anemia lately.

In a new court document filed in Pennsylvania, five individuals were summoned to appear for a hearing to show why they should not be called to testify in the high-profile trial in Idaho this summer.

Like many (alleged) serious offenders, it could be the case that BK finds life in prison more restful and calmer than the outside world. It's a more predictable and far safer environment for some types of troubled people.

If he's being medicated, pure speculation, he could feel calmer and have less anxiety and sleep well. If his vegan diet is being correctly tended to, he could also be better nourished than the ouside world where his food restrictions and exclusions might have led him to be effectively malnourished.

Plus whatever he was doing in terms of stalking, watching, prowling in the nights... online stuff... etc, it's all over. He's probably not allowed out in the yard with other prisoners so gets to sit in the sun a few hours a day or do exercise all by himself.

Maybe the state are invested in keeping him looking well because it's a high profile case? Also his legal team will be ensuring his rights and needs are met. For now!

I can't fathom being any too pleased to be summoned to testify on behalf of the defense in this case, because I sat next to the defendant in class.

I imagine most of these people are on AT's witness list to give the appearance she has a point to make.

I imagine few of these people will scissor be called, and if they are, they'll all sound a bit like this:

I worked with/lived near/studied with BK and I found him altogether unremarkable.

You definitely know that the poor female office mate who he installed the security camera for is going to be called. And so will the guy from the apartment complex who BK's dad privately asked to be his friend, esp since BK mentioned the murders to him afterwards (if my memory is correct).

Question: Do you think law enforcement or the defense asked Amazon to supply information about any Ka-bars shipped to the Moscow area? Wondering how many Ka-bars with that particular sheath might have been shipped nearby. How common are they? I feel the Ka-bar is a huge piece of evidence that makes BK seem the most likely perp, but I wonder if the defense will come up with a large number of Ka-bars with that sheath having been ordered nearby? I had never heard of it before these terrible killings.

Even if they do show a large number of sheaths ordered, the only DNA found on the sheath at the crime scene was BK's. And that is the only reason that it is so incriminating that he did, in fact, order a Kabar and matching sheath.

Then I'm calling it. She submitted a list with no instances to what they're going to testify to, resulting in this hearing at which AT will have to produce something, some good faith proffer that they have relevant testimony. That it needs a hearing says a lot. She's floundering.

I appreciate many of us believe BK probably targeted one housemate and that he's likely some sort of incel type, however, is there any proof in existence that he had dated women and was a straight heterosexual man? Is there anyone he's dated or did he have dating profiles looking for women etc that we know of? Am just curious as don't recall having heard any mention of this side of his life at all.

There were many sexy pictures he took of women on his cell phone apparently. And women have said he tried hitting on them. So there's that.

I think she is trying to call in witnesses from DeSales to testify that he was a nice, normal student. One witness on the list is a former professor who once called him a brilliant student. Another potential witness is someone he trained with at the boxing gym.

I don't see how those would be very helpful though. Pointing out that he was a very good criminology student and a very good boxer, might be problematic?

I’ve always heard that it’s very difficult to get any sleep in jail or prison. People are making racket all night and heck, we know from Stephan Sterns that they bring breakfast like at 3a!

I seriously doubt they turn all the lights down at night either — darkness is not conducive to good security, but I could be wrong. Seems perfect for night owls unless they want to be a solo night owl. OMO.

Other documentaries sometimes depict prisoners peacefully reading and making artwork or studying the bible, growing plants in a garden, or attending acting classes and working sewing mail bags for a few dollars. As if it's some idyllic secure retirement village. So... which one is it?

It's so hard to know what the truth is in jail / prison as some stories make it sound like an endless noisy hell of banging doors and screaming fights or wails. I've seen footage of people taken out in chain gangs, marched mercilessly in the blazing sun.

Other documentaries sometimes depict prisoners peacefully reading and making artwork or studying the bible, growing plants in a garden, or attending acting classes and working sewing mail bags for a few dollars. As if it's some idyllic secure retirement village. So... which one is it?

I think it depends state/county v. Club Fed, and then no doubt varies from state to state and their budgets. MOO.
