More than 80 people were in hospitals around Indianapolis on Thursday after suffering illness brought on by going swimming at a downtown public pool.

A bad chemical combination at Garfield Park Pool led to the sickness, where hundreds of people had flocked in the 90 degree heat.

Frantic parents grabbed their children from the pool and rushed for showers, using clothing to cover their faces, as others around them began vomiting.

Most of the victims were children, complaining of a range of symptoms including difficulty breathing, nausea and eye irritation. One boy was found hours later by his mother, his eyes matted shut and oozing.

I hope they mean that the child's symptoms didn't manifest until hours later and not that he was left alone at the pool to suffer for hours.
