A question about Charles Ramsey & Ariel Castro frienship

I'm reading Michelle Knight's book for the second time and in her book and in Amanda's book they both said Ariel didn't like black people. They were not allowed to listen to black music or watch any tv shows with black people. How was it that him and Charles Ramsey were friends when Charles Ramsey was the same color that he hated?

Well. One possibility is that Ariel didn't like Ramsey nor consider him a friend, but nonetheless was polite to him because Ramsey was a neighbor. Maybe Ramsey misunderstood Ariel's politeness for friendship? MOO
