I disagree. He actually is quite strong mentally. He has withstood some of the worst conditions possible and did not surrender to the pressure to off himself.

The unsaid reason that he was housed in solitary confinement for 13 months needs to be addressed.
Just call him Surrendering Ricky. He surrendered many times. Every time he confessed. When he "found God" and asked for the chance to apologize to the families. A person "quite strong mentally" does not drink from the toilet. Or throw fits and break electronics. Or eat feces. Or paint themselves with it like they're Picasso. They don't have to be force medicated. Or drug to showers to be washed by staff. The law isn't called by their wife and then she decides to take him to hospital to be evaluated. They aren't self confessed alcoholics. They don't look up online if they should die now. Guilty or innocent....... Definitely not mentally sound. Not before the murders. Not during if he did it. And not since. Unless you think Dr Wala was correct, that he was faking.

No one should be unloved. Period.

I have worked in mental health treatment, substance abuse, and corrections. I've provided health care for people who have done some heinous things. But the care I provide to them speaks about me, not about them.
Yes, providing healthcare and therapy for people who have done heinous things is expected and condoned.

But throwing them a parade full of loving placards like they are a rockstar? That seems ridiculous, imo.

I think it’s very important to understand that if he is found not guilty by a jury of his peers who have spent nearly a month viewing all of this evidence in person then that means he’s not guilty, <modsnip: WS does NOT condone threats of any kind. If there are such posts, Report them !!>. In no way was the states case a slam dunk and every lawyer I’ve seen talk about this case other than Kevin from TMS agrees that the state did not prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt, which is their burden.

Yes. Even with a not guilty verdict, it’s not like this guy is going to ride off into the sunset. He was suicidal well before he was ever caught, and likely before the murders themselves.

His reputation seems to be important to him, and his mental health is likely exponentially worse now (he’s apparently threatening to kill jail guards).

This won’t end well for him, and I also hope he doesn’t take others with him.
Makes you wonder, how happy the family would be to welcome him home. I would be afraid to have him home and I’m sure they are questioning if he’s innocent or guilty themselves.

Controversy and taking the "rebel" side gets clicks. My opinion only.

Agree. Great point.

It isn't just about transparency (even if it ought to be) -- it's also about the power of for-profit influencers who can peddle alternative facts and be ambassadors for any number of narratives, however absurd. We know the power of disinformation to shift minds and distort critical truths -- even on a national scale.

You need no journalistic, legal or forensic training for these occupations (though some of course have it), just the ability to find and retain followers. And if you're wrong? Who cares? Nothing depends on it, and you're not liable for anything, as a "content creator." As we know it can pay just as well, or better, to be wrong as it does to be right.

Fortunately in this case I think we've got a strong jury. But the story may not end with their verdict.

My sentiments exactly.

These YouTubers are not trained journalists. Journalism is a profession, with rules and guidelines.

YouTubers are untrained people who have access to the Internet.
It helps if they are good-looking.

I don’t even follow the podcasters who may be more sentient than YouTubers, but IMO are still untrained people spouting whatever they wish in order to attract followers.

Of course actual journalists are trying to make a profit for their newspapers or news channels, but they have journalistic guidelines to which they must adhere.

What’s the general consensus regarding the elevation change from the Apple Health data? I thought the Defense scored a huge point when they noted out that the distance from the bridge to the river is 60’ but the data only showed an elevation change of 20’ (which is roughly the distance from the bridge to the driveway). MOO
Elevation and distance are not the same thing. Imagine a person stepping off the edge of a cliff. He may as a result have only traveled inches in distance, but hundreds of feet in elevation.
