Hi everyone. My great-uncle went disappeared without a trace in 2000 and hasn't been seen since. I was a toddler when he vanished and never got to meet him. I have spent the last few years trying to compile as much information about his case as possible in the hopes of finding out what happened to him, and have also been in touch with the (now retired) investigator of the case. Please, please reply here or reach out directly if you have any tips, ideas, theories, or information. I really want to know what happened. Case details as follows:
Kochendorfer departed from his family's residence in Palmer, Alaska on October 27, 2000. He planned to go hunting bears near the face of the Knik Glacier in Butte, Alaska for three or four days. His wife said that he is an experienced hunter who has gone on multi-day trips alone before and is familiar with the Butte area.
He was last seen at a gasoline station in Butte later in the day. He has never been heard from again. He was carrying hunting supplies at the time of his disappearance, including cold weather gear, extra gasoline tanks and a gray dome tent.
Kochendorfer's ATV was discovered abandoned several days later. Two hunters located it along a trail in the Jim Creek area near Butte less than 1 mile from his residence. There was no sign of him at the scene. An extensive search of the area, lasting several days, produced no clues as to his whereabouts. His case remains unsolved.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Alfred Kochendorfer, please contact Alaska State Troopers Palmer Post and reference case number 00-74334 at (907) 745-2131 or the Missing Persons Clearinghouse 1-800-478-9333 (Alaska Only) or (907) 269-5058.
