Troopers searching for Palmer man reported missing near Hope

Alaska State Trooper are searching for a 56-year-old man who was reported missing on Friday night near Hope after gold panning with a group of friends.

Troopers say that 56-year-old Earl "Rocky" Ashworth III walked away from camp around mile 56 of the Seward Highway. Ashworth is described as white, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

"[He was] last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with cut off sleeves and an American eagle on the front with blue jeans," wrote troopers in an online release.

Late Sunday afternoon, AST spokeswoman Megan Peters said search efforts are on hold until crews get a better indication where he may be.

Ashworth was last seen near mile marker 56 on the Seward Highway south of Anchorage, Alaska at 5:00 p.m. on August 10, 2018. He and four friends went to the area to explore a gold mine.

His friends went down to the mine, while Ashworth stayed behind with his ten-year-old dog, Cruiser. When the rest of the group returned, Ashworth was gone and Cruiser was there alone. He has never been heard from again. Few details are available in his case.
