Family, APD searching for Anchorage woman missing since Sunday - KTUU
<snipped & BBM>
Family and the Anchorage Police Department are seeking information about the whereabouts of Saria Barney Hildebrand, a 21-year-old woman who has been living in Anchorage for a little over six months.

Hildebrand was last seen and heard from on Sunday around 10 a.m. near Mockingbird Drive and Alpenhorn Avenue, near the apartment complex where she lives with her husband. According to police, Hildebrand left her apartment to go to work that morning, but left her phone at home — which her family says is abnormal for her — and since then no one has heard from her.

[...]

Hildebrand’s mother Meredith Barney is concerned for her daughter’s safety.

It’s super abnormal for her to be out of contact at all with people, she is super committed to her job, she’s not struggling with any mental health issues, no substance abuse issues. She’s part of the National Guard so she’s really committed to that, and it’s just super abnormal, I’ve never gone this long without talking to her,” Barney said.

[...]

“We did a walk through all the forest between here and there and we walked all around the area and the different paths and all the different ways she could have gone to work at this point,” Barney said.

[...]

According to family, Hildebrand is a warm and loving person and was in a good headspace — she did not have any subsistence [sic] abuse issues or mental health issues.

[...]

When asked for comment on the case, a spokesperson for Anchorage police said, “This is an ongoing investigation and we have no additional details to release at this time.”

According to APD, Hildebrand was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black jeans and black shoes. She is 5′8″ tall, approximately 160 pounds, and has brown hair and green eyes.

Those with information about Hildebrand are asked to contact APD dispatch at 311 and mention the case number 23-25646.

A look at Google maps shows the area where she lives is pretty well populated, not any large areas of undeveloped land or bodies of water. The article didn't state whether she left on foot or has a vehicle. That could make a large difference on the route she would have taken.

This makes me think they believe she was on foot.

* There seems to be some confusion as to the correct spelling of Saria's surname, which is written as "Hildebrand" in numerous articles. The one in Alaska's News Source just updated 20 minutes ago with an editor's note stating that "Hildabrand" is actually the correct spelling. *

Family, APD searching for Anchorage woman missing since Sunday

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Family members and the Anchorage Police Department are seeking information about the whereabouts of Saria Barney Hildabrand, a 21-year-old woman who has been living in Anchorage for a little over six months.

Hildabrand was last seen and heard from on Sunday around 10 a.m. near Mockingbird Drive and Alpenhorn Avenue, near the apartment complex where she lives with her husband. According to police, Hildebrand left her apartment to go to work that morning, but left her phone at home — which her family says is abnormal for her — and since then no one has heard from her.

Search and rescue teams, Anchorage police officers, scent hounds, and even a drone was being set up near the apartment complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Hildabrand’s mother Meredith Barney is concerned for her daughter’s safety.

“It’s super abnormal for her to be out of contact at all with people, she is super committed to her job, she’s not struggling with any mental health issues, no substance abuse issues. She’s part of the National Guard so she’s really committed to that, and it’s just super abnormal, I’ve never gone this long without talking to her,” Barney said.

Hildabrand’s mother and her aunt, who both reside in the Lower 48, came up to Alaska to help search for her.

“We did a walk through all the forest between here and there and we walked all around the area and the different paths and all the different ways she could have gone to work at this point,” Barney said.

“We got here yesterday afternoon and we went directly to the police department, you know just helping them and giving them all of the information we have,” Hildabrand’s aunt Brittany Monson said.

This post by the Anchorage PD is possibly about their search for Saria -- commenters to the thread seem to believe that it is.

At 2:31PM on August 10, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to a residence on the 1400-block of Alpenhorn Avenue for an ongoing investigation.

The Crime Scene Team will be responding to process the scene.
There are no road closures currently. Please avoid the area. If you must be in the area, please follow officer instructions. Thank you for your cooperation.

Depending on the situation, our response may require using a variety of tactics and tools, to include the drone.

Anchorage police search for missing Alaska Army National Guardsman - Alaska Public Media

Police said Spc. Saria Barney Hildabrand was last seen Sunday near the 5200 block of Mockingbird Drive, off Brayton Drive between Dowling and East Tudor roads. She was reported missing the next day.

[...]

Hildabrand moved to Alaska at the beginning of the year. She joined the Guard in March, and currently serves as a combat medic with the 1st Battalion, 297th Infantry Regiment. She also works at Bread & Brew Alaska, a restaurant on East Tudor, not far from her home.

[...]

Hildabrand’s phone was found at her home, which Monson said was unusual for her.

“She was a super in-touch and communicative person, so it does seem a little out of the ordinary,” Monson said.

Monson said police haven’t mentioned any concerns about Hildabrand’s disappearance involving foul play. Police said in an alert that its Crime Scene Team had responded to Mockingbird Drive Wednesday afternoon for an “ongoing investigation,” but declined to comment further.

According to Monson, police have been joined by searchers from the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division. Initial efforts have focused on the walking path north from Hildabrand’s home to Bread & Brew, with a Thursday search at the University Lake dog park which she frequented.

"This would be a good place to come and see if anyone recognizes her or remembered her dogs or see if there's any evidence of her being in this space," Meredith Barney, Hildebrand's mother said.

"Mostly to spread the word to people that would maybe know or care about her so that we can continue to get the message out that she's missing and that we're looking for her," Brittany Monson, Hildebrand's aunt said.

"I'm just trying to remind myself that she's a really good kid, that she's here. She came up here to look further. Her future, but she wasn't struggling with anything," Meredith Barney said.

"So to say to her, like, 'I love you.' You come home and there's so many people looking for you," Meredith Barney said.

"She's the family member that everybody feels close and cozy with, and we love her so much," Monson said.

Hildabrand’s husband, an Army soldier, was the last person to see her Sunday morning, said Monson. She left home to walk to work at the restaurant. A fund set up for the search says Hildabrand never returned home from work, and then her husband learned she had never arrived at the restaurant that morning either. He reported her missing Monday.

With her husband arrested, I can share this info I found early this morning. He currently has (or had) a bench warrant listed for him in his hometown in Kentucky and county court records show two active cases. Charges weren't available for viewing on the co. court website, could be serious or could be vehicular but they are there for your reference. I'm heartbroken for her family. She sounded like an amazing young woman. KYeCourts - Login Bench Warrant Listing Link is here: https://hcky.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Bench-Warrant-List.pdf

Her husband's facebook post. He was thanking everyone for their prayers.

One of his comments:

I hate to respond to this but you seem pretty persistent so A+ for the effort, and if must know I didn’t have access to my phone or any kinda device for 12+ hours yesterday and when I finally got it back I used it for communications back and forth to people to pass along information/ obtain information such as the picture I posted and all of this was done before I saw your comment and if I knew were my wife was any parties involved under the investigation would’ve known by now so. Unless you have something positive to say or any news regarding my wife I would greatly appreciate if you would comment on my post. Thank you and have a wonderful evening
