Her husband, Zarrius Hildabrand, 21, was taken into custody and remanded at the Anchorage jail on charges of first- and second-degree murder as well as tampering with evidence, the Anchorage Police Department said Friday. At the time of his arrest, Hildabrand was a soldier with the U.S. Army in Anchorage.

The first-degree murder charge carries a maximum penalty of 99 years in prison."

and

"A remembrance for Saria Hildabrand is planned for 6:30 p.m. Monday at University Lake Dog Park."

They were out drinking with friends until 2 AM. At 2:45 AM, someone heard a gunshot. He waited 2 days to report her missing.

Was he jealous? There is no motive, but there is DV.

On Thursday, detectives tracking Hildabrand’s phone found that he had been to Lowe’s, where he bought a large, wheeled garbage can. They found a similar can on a landscaping truck not far from the apartment complex where the couple lived and took it into custody. The truck had been parked near a trail, and officers brought a drone to the area and found evidence that led them to Saria Hildabrand’s body in bloody storm drain off the trail.

Such a tragedy for Saria and her family... Only 21 with a bright future ahead of her.

Yes, IMO there are far too many DV cases that end up like this one. Makes you wonder what happened to such a young couple, married less than a year, to end up in a first-degree murder situation.

Was he going to use the marinara sauce to mask the blood on the soaked mattress?

"Police noted that Hildabrand purchased a jar of marinara sauce, a set of sheets matching the brand found at the apartment, a mattress cover, a 96-gallon garbage can, hydrogen peroxide and an empty spray bottle August 6.

It's not clear why Hildebrand may have bought the marinara sauce."

"The bed in their home was covered by a mattress pad with a package of new sheets nearby - and the husband refused to let police examine it.

He told them that there were 'embarrassing' items 'used for sex' under the bed, and that's why he wouldn't let them see it, the document said."

That’s what I thought too about the sauce. There is absolutely no way he was going to get away with this…
I think he killed her in a moment of anger however he had enough time to get the gun and so therefore it’s premeditated. Just couldn’t control his emotions, like so many others.
RIP Saria, like many others, including myself, you were fooled by a partner…

I was reading about why service members marry so young, and I found this quote from ScienceDaily:
The military's solution is to incorporate families in their entirety, and it pays the full relocation costs for each family member -- as long as they are married. This policy causes people to marry earlier than they had planned to, and sometimes to people they would not otherwise have married.

I think I read that ZH was transferred to AK relatively recently. Given that SH was in the national guard, would they have paid her relocation costs and could she have chosen to switch her duty to Alaska if not married?

Hmmm… that’s interesting!
