James Carol Jackson of Groveton, Texas, left his home for coastal Alabama in 1987. Sometime in 1988 or 1989, he was shot and killed. His body was discovered in January 1994, and was positively identified more than 32 year later in April 2026, through forensic genealogy. The Baldwin County Sheriff's Department held a news conference on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in Bay Minette, Ala., to discuss the identification of Jackson's remains and an ongoing homicide investigation.
