The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the search for a woman whose vehicle was found at the Cahaba River canoe launch off Grants Mill Road near Interstate 459.
Fire departments with Leeds, Vestavia Hills, Birmingham, Cahaba Valley, and Rocky Ridge and law enforcement from Birmingham, Jefferson County, and Irondale assisted in a searching for her along the Cahaba River. However, that search was called off about 2:30 p.m. Monday after officials say they searched the river multiple times but found no evidence she was ever in the river.
Several agencies started searching for the 35-year-old woman yesterday afternoon, but had to call off the operation.
The woman, Cara Yager, was reported missing by her family after they became concerned about her safety, said sheriff’s spokesman Capt. David Agee. She was last seen Sunday afternoon in the area of Grant’s Mill Road.
“We’re looking at all options,” Agee said. “We want to reach out to the public to see what anyone may know.”
Anyone with information about Yager’s whereabouts should please call 205-325-1450.
