Stephen Miller, Sr. was charged overnight and police expected to reveal more about the investigation later today. It was not immediately clear how investigators believed Gloria Miller died.

Court documents show that Stephen Miller in July 2024 alleged that his wife had threatened to kill him and his son and filed a protection order in Houston County Circuit Court. However, those records show the following day he dropped his case. Those documents show the couple did not reside together at the time.

Then, on January 3, Miller filed another Protection from Abuse Order claiming his wife threatened to “destroy” him, but he again asked a judge to dismiss the case with that dismissal granted on January 30.

“There have been a lot of comments about “bond” so we hope to offer some clarity here:

In Alabama, the bail system is primarily governed by state laws, and it is intended to ensure that a person charged with a crime can be released from jail while awaiting trial, with the understanding that they will return for future court appearances. The bail system is meant to balance the presumption of innocence with the need to ensure the defendant’s appearance in court and the safety of the community.

Ultimately a Judge decides whether or not an accused individual gets a bond. In Houston/Henry County there is no one that can make a bond over $150,000 (This is due to bond company limits).

So a bond set at 1.5 million is effectively “No Bond.” The bond would have to be reduced by a judge or the accused put up the 1.5 million in cash. Bond is an integral part of the American Criminal Justice System and it is important to remember that all person are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, no matter what side of the case we are operating from,”

During the investigation, police said Wednesday, Stephen Miller admitted that on Saturday he and his wife had a physical altercation. He also admitted to manually strangling her until she was dead

A husband reported his wife missing, then her body was found under a bridge in a creek bed, according to Alabama authorities.

Police say he’s the one who killed her.

Miller put out an “urgent request” for tips on Facebook that said Gloria Miller was last seen in a residential neighborhood of Dothan the evening of Feb. 22 before she disappeared. He asked anyone with information to contact him.

But police said that before Stephen Miller reported his 57-year-old wife missing to police, someone had found some of her personal items in a parking lot of a shopping center.

An advocate for domestic violence victims said she is unable to speak about this case but told News4 that claims of abuse are sometimes a smokescreen to obscure the truth.

“It’s using the legal system against the person that is being abused by way of filing protection orders,” said House of Ruth criminal justice specialist Amber Dixon. “It is another way to keep someone under your thumb and have that power and control.”

This is what I thought of earlier today reading a previous post that mentioned a protective order against her. It just sat wrong with me & made me think that probably she needed the order against him. And considering that he's now admitted to murdering her, she likely needed a protection order from him. (Not that it always helps.) I think when it's used as a smokescreen, it's also another way to humiliate & control the victim. MOO.
