Birmingham Police Facebook:

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department is searching for a missing 31-year-old woman who was last seen Wednesday that it considers to be in danger.

According to the BPD, Jermiera Ivory Fowler was in the 500 block of 41st North at 4 p.m. Wednesday. She has not been seen or heard from since leaving to meet someone to complete a purchase from Facebook Market Place.

Fowler is 5-foot-6, weighs 250 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair. She is possibly wearing a black dress and black sneakers. Fowler’s hair is shoulder length. She drives a white Nissan Versa Note with Alabama tag “1A0YPYR.”

Those who have information about Fowler are asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

I wonder if she was buying or selling? That can be a risky thing to do, going to meet a stranger for a cash transaction.

She was buying. From the Birmingham PD FB page:

DESCRIPTION:
Jermiera Fowler has not been seen nor heard from since leaving to meet someone to make a purchase from Facebook Market Place.
She is considered to be in danger

I had a look on Google maps for the location of where Jermiera was last seen (500 block of 41st Street N) and I thought the area looked really familiar. It is literally right around the corner from where Cupcake McKinney was abducted.

(Not that I think the cases are related in any way.)

''Around 9 p.m. on June 1, police received reports of a burning body about 6 miles from where Fowler had last been seen.

Police and firefighters found a woman’s body still on fire and worked to extinguish the flames, according to a video release from the Birmingham Police Department.

“Officers observed visible signs of trauma on the victim,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald said in the video. “Currently, we are investigating this case as a homicide.”

Medical examiners later identified the body as Fowler and said she had been shot before being set on fire, AL.com reported.

Though the department noted Fowler left for a Facebook Marketplace meetup before going missing, they cannot confirm whether her death was a result of that meetup at this time, police said''.

Wow. That is disturbing. 99.99% of the time, it is probably fine to meet someone and make a FB transaction. Then, the anomaly, and it is too scary to do it.

Reminds of the pregnant gal, who went to buy baby clothes...that is what I was worried about here. Terrible.

It is why I stopped running outside in the morning years ago...unfortunately.

I haven't seen anything that says they've found her car yet. It's a Nissan Versa Note.
Here is a generic image of that type of car. It appears that model years were from 2014 to 2019, with a styling update in 2017 (noticeable change in front grill). I don't know what year her vehicle was.

It would be pretty stupid to attack someone meeting up with you on FB market, because LE would have a record of your communications. I am sure they are checking that out now, but maybe it is a red herring?
Yeah. We don't really know if the FB purchase was relevant to her being killed. It's very possible, but it could also be someone she knows who followed her.

There may be indications that this has little to do with a FB marketplace purchase.

Police said Fowler told her family she was going to meet someone to make a purchase off Facebook Marketplace.

“We have not ruled that out but our detectives have uncovered additional facts that may not point solely to a Facebook marketplace meetup,” said Officer Truman Fitzgerald with Birmingham Police.

Police said Fowler's car was recovered in the city but would not say where. Her car was not located in the area of where her body was discovered.

No one is in custody.

If you have any information, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

“She was a mother, she had so many people who cared for her and someone shot her and dumped her like that," said public information officer Truman Fitzgerald. "It's extremely tough. Most of our detectives are parents, fathers, mothers, so anytime you deal with a fellow parent, that has lost their life and you know they are going to be separated from their children, it just breaks your heart."

Police said Fowler reportedly went to make a Facebook Marketplace purchase but they cannot confirm whether that meet-up led to her death.

"Currently we cannot rule that out, however our detectives are learning additional facts that may point to something else besides Facebook Marketplace," explained Fitzgerald. "We're just going to do our best to investigate and back track. Our investigators have great resources in the city of Birmingham and we are going to utilize them."

On Thursday at approximately 9:00pm, police received a report of a body on fire in the area of Sellers Road – with the Jefferson County Coroner stating that the woman had been shot – prior to being placed on fire.

The Calhoun Journal spoke with a number of different law enforcement agencies in Calhoun County about this type of crime.

Although homicide does not happen all that often, robberies are very common with these types of transactions. Each of the local law enforcement agencies have an area where citizens can meet with others to conduct these types of transactions. The police departments have cameras to monitor the area and some have full audio as well.

Each of the officials that we spoke with strongly recommended that anyone wishing to make a purchase from someone they’ve never met before should ONLY MEET WITH THEM in a SAFE environment such as the local police department.

If you request a meeting at such a location and the person is reluctant, that should cause you to become suspicious of their true intent. A legitimate seller should have no problem meeting at a police station to complete a sale.

Some of the chief’s also mentioned that many parents with shared custody utilize the safe transaction areas to complete the exchange of their children for visitation purposes. It doesn’t matter what type of legal interaction a person is going to be completing, the different agencies simply want the public to be safe at all times.

Oh I feel so sad for her beautiful kids <tears>. This was such a horrific attack.

I hate to even type this question, but at the same time I feel so strongly that Jermiera deserves justice - I imagine burning her was to remove any clues, but does anyone know if the bullet remained within her could that be used to ID the gun (if LE comes up with that in the future somehow, as through investigations, etc.) even if burned?

RIP lovely Jermiera. Her FB shows that she had a lot of faith, and I'm praying for solace for her family.
