DEKALB COUNTY, Ala (WHNT) — The search continues for a missing Dekalb County teen after she was last seen on September 26.

Makenna Joy Purvis, 19, of Valley Head, was last seen leaving a location on Inspec Drive in Valley Head.

Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) formed a search party with Fischer Island Rescue Team, Valley Head Police Department, Dekalb County EMA, two canine units and local fire departments on Saturday. They searched the wooded area Makenna had last been seen in. However, there was no sign of her in the area.

She is described as 5ft 6 inches tall and weighing about 100 to 120 pounds. She has red hair and hazel eyes.

If you know anything about Makenna’s whereabouts, DCSO asks that you contact them (256-845-3801) or the investigations office (256-845-8562).

It's been six months since 19-year-old MaKenna Purvis was last seen walking along a tree line in the Valley Head area of DeKalb County, Alabama, and investigators don't feel they're any closer to bringing her home.

Purvis was last seen on September 26, walking along a tree line near Inspec Drive in Valley Head.

"We conducted a massive search in that area," said Priscilla Padgett, the lead investigator on the case for the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office (AL). "No vehicles were seen in the area as to her being picked up."

Padgett told Local 3 News they plan to expand the search to cover more ground around where Purvis was last seen.

Valley Head has a population of less than 600 people according to Wikipedia.

IMHO How in the heck does a young girl walking totally disappear from a town of less than 600 people? I do not know this area nor do I know if they get many travelers through the area. It is possible this is something closer to some one from the area. No vehicles seen in the area. Very odd. Limited information too. No statement from her parents. No reason why she was walking there. Was that a normal route?? Not all crimes happen in big cities. Small towns can also have bad people. This has been a long time. May not end well.

Hopefully unrelated..Waiting for official word.

:( Sad news...remains have been identified as Makenna.

FORT PAYNE, AL (WHNT) — The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) has identified remains found in Valley Head last month as a missing teen last seen in September.

DCSO said Monday that the remains originally found on March 23 have been identified by the Alabama Department of Forensics as 19-year-old Makenna Joy Purvis.

Purvis was originally reported missing in September 2022. DCSO said it has been searching for her and investigating since her disappearance near Inspect Drive in Valley Head. The sheriff’s office said her remains were located by the Huntsville Search Dog Unit.

DCSO said no foul play is suspected at this time.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden thanked volunteers who helped in the search and offered sympathy for the family.

“This is such a terrible tragedy and I can not even begin to imagine the pain that this family is feeling at this time,” Welden said. “Thank you to all that volunteered time to help search for this precious girl, we had all hoped and prayed for a different outcome. Please keep the family and friends of Makenna in your prayers for months to come.”
