Amanda Morgan, 39, of Theodore, is charged with aggravated child abuse and murder after police were called to a home in the 6000 block of Sperry Road in October 2025, and reportedly found a boy dead.

A judge set Morgan's bond at $40,000 for the aggravated abuse charge and $400,000 for the murder charge. She remains in custody at the Mobile County Metro Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned on March 24.

According to prosecutors, the focus of the investigation shifted to the conditions inside the home.

In court, they described an environment they say was unsafe and unlivable—no air conditioning, no running water, and feces covering parts of the home.

Prosecutors argue those conditions—and the level of care provided—are central to the charges now filed against Morgan.

Court records also reveal another child of Morgan, a 16-year-old identified as LM, was hospitalized for malnutrition.

While investigating, police said there were signs of neglect and that Morgan had left her children home alone overnight — and not for the first time, according to court testimony. Morgan reportedly left her children alone in the residence for "extended periods of time."
