An investigation is underway after human remains were found in western Jefferson County on Thursday.
The discovery was made about 4:12 p.m. Sheriff’s Capt. David Agee said they received a 911 call from some citizens who found the remains while they were out walking were out walking on Shady Grove Road near the Village Creek bridge.
Deputies reported to their location and observed what appeared to be human remains protruding from the ground. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office was notified and came to the scene.
At this time the race or gender of the remains cannot be determined. Deputies will secure the scene until the remains can be excavated on Friday.
