Victoria "Tori" Monette. 2-year-old
Monette died Nov. 22, 2003, from wounds she allegedly received at a residence in Chalkville. Monettes wounds consisted of blunt force trauma to the head and scalding of her skin to the point it was peeling off.
Reids ex-boyfriend, Michael K. Meyers, a convicted sex offender, was also charged with two counts of capital murder and one count of felony murder in the death of Monette. Myers pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter and living in the residence of a minor Jan. 24, 2005.
According to court records, in Myers plea agreement, the Jefferson County District Attorneys Office has agreed to a sentence of 25 years in prison after Myers pleaded guilty to manslaughter, and 20 years in prison for pleading guilty to living in the residence of a minor. That sentence is not guaranteed, and Myers will not be sentenced until after Reids case is completed.
The events leading to the death of Monette are disputed, and attorneys for the defense and the prosecution presented their sides to the case during opening statements Wednesday.
