Alan Rickman, British Actor Known for 'Harry Potter' Role, Has Died of Cancer

Me too, I'm grieving today. His death has hit me much harder than David Bowie's.

You are not the first person I have heard that from. :therethere:

It's like when Farrah Fawcett died and then the next day Michael Jackson died and Farrah's death was totally forgotten.

Except I don't think it will be that way with Rickman. He had a long career with many generations who came to love him and be influenced by him.

Truly saddened this morning. Mr. Rickman's body of work truly touched so many.

His work with the Harry Potter series made him familiar to our children, as well. He will be SO very missed.

RIP, Sir.

I loved him as Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. And of course, he could do a villain like nobody's business.

RIP.

Same here. I wasn't a particular fan of Bowie's music, but I respected the man, his views and his talent However, Alan Rickman seems different as I actually feel the loss. Its awful to think that we should have had another 10 or more of his amazing performances. He was one of my all time favourite actors and I absolutely loved him as Snape in Harry Potter. He was so chilling, but vulnerable. My children grew up with those books (I used to read them to my boys) and then we'd go to the cinema to see the films - and his performances really made the films for me.

Last week film buffs across the world were met with some very sad news, after it emerged that legendary British actor Alan Rickman had died at the age of just 69.

The London-born star leaves an undisputed legacy - and that's now set to grow even further with the release of 'Eye in the Sky', his final on-screen role.

Rickman plays Lieutenant General Frank Benson in the British thriller, alongside Helen Mirren and Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul.

The film sees Helen Mirren play Colonel Katherine Powell, a UK-based military officer leading a top-secret drone mission to capture a terrorist cell based in a safehouse in Kenya.
