A new appeal is made 10 years after Anthony Stammers failed to arrive for his grandfather's funeral.

A fresh appeal is being made to trace a missing man, described as "a kind and gentle soul", to mark the 10th anniversary of his disappearance.

Anthony Stammers was 27 years old when he was last seen in Colchester, Essex, on 27 May 2012.
He was reported missing the following day after he failed to turn up to his grandfather's funeral.
His father Rob Stammers described living "a sort of dual existence".

Mr Stammers had been feeling low since the death of his grandfather, to whom he was very close, his family said.

He left the family home at 10:00 BST on 27 May and an hour later texted his mum and asked her to check his clothes for the funeral.

Anthony Stammers' family have described living in a "dual existence" since he disappeared exactly 10 years ago in Colchester, Essex - but have refused to give up hope he will be found.

On the day of his disappearance, Anthony told his mother he was going out and likely to stay overnight with a friend ahead of his grandfather's funeral.

"He texted me asking to make sure his trousers were ready for the funeral - and that was the last contact we had," Julie said.

Enquiries found Anthony withdrew cash from a petrol station close to home - his last-known bank transaction.

He was wearing blue jeans, a red, and blue checked shirt and carrying a black record bag when he was last seen.

He may have also been wearing a black New York Yankees baseball cap and a beige jacket.

The parents of a man who has been missing for ten years have appealed for anyone who has seen their “kind and gentle” son, knows where he is or is with him now to come forward with information. Anthony Stammers, 27, was last seen leaving his family home in Mile End Road, Colchester, at about 10am on May 27, 2012. The talented musician sent a text message to his mum, Julie, at 11am asking her to make sure his trousers were ready for his grandfather’s funeral the next day. But when he did not arrive at Colchester Crematorium for the service on May 28, his parents reported him missing to police. Despite widespread searches of the town and appeals for information, Anthony has not been located. In the last decade, we have followed up potential sightings of Anthony in areas such as Colchester, Staffordshire, Birmingham, Doncaster and London. Unfortunately, none have yielded any significant lines of enquiry. Friday 27 May, 2022, will mark ten years since he was last seen, and his parents Julie and Robert are appealing for anyone who has seen Anthony, is with him or knows where he is to please get in touch.
