UPDATED: 9:48 am CST November 14, 2005

FORT SMITH, Ark. -- The jury is seated, ready to begin a high-profile Fort Smith murder trial.

Thomas Springs goes on trial Monday morning for the January death of his wife, Christina. Fort Smith police said Springs stalked his wife, then stabbed her to death in the middle of a busy intersection.

Last week, 12 jurors along with three alternates were seated in the case.

If convicted, Springs could face life in prison or the death penalty.

The state Supreme Court today rejected the latest appeal by a Fort Smith man sentenced to die for stabbing his estranged wife to death on a city street.

The high court upheld Thomas Leo Springs’ capital murder conviction and death sentence in the Jan. 21, 2005, slaying of Christina Springs, rejecting his argument that he received ineffective counsel at his trial in Sebastian County Circuit Court.
