It truly sounds like this guy was a habitual stalker:
What began as a welfare check Sunday morning led to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol arresting a Fayetteville man suspected of killing a University of Arkansas student.

Zachariah Marcyniuk, 28, faces a charge of first-degree murder for the death of Katherine Wood, 24.
I've got a blog entry up about this case. Marcyniuk had a substantial and weirdly interesting web presence. He and Katie were friends on MySpace as well.

From May 2009:

http://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2009/may/10/katies-dream-20090510/

Katie, 24, was a 2002 Greenbrier High School graduate and was scheduled to graduate from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in May 2008 with a double major in fine arts and English. She was saving her money to take a graduation trip to Sweden, then her goal was to get a master's degree and become a professor.

Her ex-boyfriend killed her March 9, 2008, after breaking into her apartment and ambushing her as she opened the door that Sunday morning. Katie, 5 feet tall and 92 pounds, was beaten and had about 50 stab wounds, her mother said.

Zachariah Marcyniuk was convicted and sentenced to death...

Sharon said Katie was a blessing after the Woods' 18-month-old son, Marty, drowned Aug. 25, 1982, while in the care of a babysitter when the family lived in California.

Katie was born a year later to the day - Aug. 25, 1983 - after her brother died.
