AR - Unattended Six-Year-Old Walks Away From School

I honestly don't see any reason the teacher couldn't have done a better job here are the stats for the school

I've been repeating this same point of discussion.... am I invisible? :(

Sorry, you are not invisible. Actually, you are the one who brought to my attention how long he actually must have been missing! Good sleuthing! :woohoo:

I was focused on what the teacher initially did wrong, but I never did the math (YUCK!) of how many minutes it would take a 6yo to walk to see the fish, out the door, out of the school property, and then a mile in the rain. Then be noticed, convinced to get into the car with a stranger , and brought back to the school.

Nowhere in the article does it say that the teacher was frantically searching for him at this time. I'm assuming that she still hadn't noticed he was gone. I'm guessing an hour.

Unacceptable.:snooty:

he wasn't taken back to school though the real estate lady took him home! His mom knew before the damn school did

I disagree ... at that age the bathrooms should be in the classroom and anything else should be the buddy system:)

Well maybe my kids' elementary school was different than the one your children attended. Each grade had its own "wing" with its own bathroom located in the center. The kids in kindergarten had the bathrooms in the room, but for the rest of the kids, they were allowed to leave the classroom. Of course, as I may have said before, I live in a very small town, so the school is pretty small.

"I come up, and someone was beating on door. It was a lady with realty company. I never saw her in my life and Adrian was standing next to her soaking wet," said Heather George.

Not only should the parents be upset that the kid walked out of
school, but he also got in a car with a stranger.

We experienced something similar with my 5 yo dd yesterday. She is taking a different bus than normal this week. She is supposed to take the 'Apple' bus. We have told her this & every day she gets a bus pass for the bus driver on the ride home. Something got mixed up with her bus pass yesterday, & she had the pass for getting to school, which is a different bus than the one coming home.
At 2:50 I get a call from the school that I missed. They left a Voice mail saying - "Zachary (who is NOT my child, I have a little girl named Logan!) did not have a proper bus pass, he needs a proper multi part buss pass to take a different bus, I have included some in his back pack".
OK - So I call my husband, who is meeting her at the bus stop, yes, he did put a multipart bus pass in her back pack. I call the school to let them know they must have called the wrong parent.
They tell me that no, Logan did not have a bus pass - but that's OK Mrs. W, We put Logan on the Panda Bus. MY HEART SANK. I said - she is supposed to be on the Apple bus. Where does the Panda bus go??? She had no idea. I tell her to hang up & call the bus driver & let him know she is on the wrong bus. I look it up on the web & the Panda bus route is no where near our house.
Thankfully, she was able to radio the bus driver & locate my dd, who was still on the bus. He had the bus pass with the correct address on it, you would think the guy would know it was not part of his route!!!
I did talk to dd & explain that she cannot ride just any bus.
The little boy in the story should definately be spoken too, but I don't agree he should be punished. Someone needs to explain to him why he was in danger. He may have no idea.

I think we must remember that this wasn't at the end of the school day it was during and yes it should be explained to the little boy about leaving school on his own and before it gets, and about strangers.out but the school needs to have safety measures in place so things like this do not happen.
God only knows what would have happened had it been a less then respectable person who found that child, and I can only guess she thought the mom was at fault. The school is culpable here and needs to explain how it happened cause no comment leaves me to believe they know there are security failures there.

after watching the video of the story the little boy is adhd and bi-polar the school knew his medical. It was a very busy road with no sidewalks and it was more then a mile he walked

To put it in perspective, if you were home with your six year old and he was found walking alone a mile away from home, who would be in trouble? I expect the schools/teachers to be very careful with the youngest children just as the state expects parents to be with their very young children.

So, the "language barrier" prevented this mother from calling 911???? Why doesn't the language barrier prevent people from obtaining free benefits from the state?

I know our welfare office has a poster up so you can point to your language. But the little guy is in state hands now,so hope everything works out ok for him.

I hope so too. It shouldn't take until 10:45 PM for someone to call police to report a young child missing.
