OH - Spencer and Monique Tepe found shot to death at home 2 children unharmed, Columbus, 30 December 2025 *ex-husband arrested*

My assumption is the officers on the scene wouldn't question the children beyond perhaps basic info but instead provide comfort and care - and arrange for specialized interogators who know how to deal with children to do the questioning.

I am not an expert, though.

I agree with you. I think police would probably defer to forensic interviewers, who are trained to conduct interviews that may have involved trauma.

I hear you but they don't seem like they have that much money. The house was bought a few years ago for what, only $500K, current estimate somewhere in the 700-800 range? Not sure if they have full equity. Young career, started a family, even the interior of the wedding video doesn't indicate any really fancy belongings or real wealth. The case info thus far still seems random or some targeted revenge/domestic/slight angle. Or something totally out of left field. which is why it's captivated so many people.
How would that make life insurance policies/wills relevant as a motive?

Is your experience in LE (you sound experienced)? I was just looking at how I would do it if I was in a robber's shoes. If I got in through pure luck (door was unlocked) and the house was completely dark and everyone was upstairs sleeping, I would probably grab what I could from downstairs (assuming there were things of value) and then leave instead of going to the master bedroom where people are sleeping. Why push my luck? Of course, a young gangbanger might think differently.
I am a dog owner though - and my dog would bark her head off if she sensed a stranger in the house (especially once they came upstairs). That would awaken pretty much everyone else in the house.
Double homicides while committing a robbery are rare. So most robbers agree with you. Do a smash and grab and get out asap. Do not get bogged down with fighting with people or killing them.

A robbery is a business crime, not personal.

That said it is possible for murder to take place in a routine robbery, but not common.

I don't see how it would. I was agreeing with the post that said it wouldn't.

I was expanding on this:
Finances might be a motive, but not life insurance and wills. my opinion

Not quite. They released a video of a POI. That video WAS the POI. But the person they initially took into custody was not the man in the video.

Then they released a second video of a separate man, who they believed encountered the POI. They wanted this second man identified as he may have information related to the case.

But they did not call that man a POI.
Sorry I don't know if your referring to another case here but I don't remember a person being taken into custody before the man in Lane video

I'm usually great at keeping up with posts but I could have missed it , can you tell me if a person was taken into custody in monique and Spencer case TIA

I sincerely hope that the police would not try to interview a 4 year old, and would call someone trained to work with children, especially traumatized children. Without the proper training the information obtained from a 4 year is probably worthless. And may do more harm than good.

"Only $500K."

We be ballin' around here, I guess?

I haven't read through the whole thread yet but there is an eerie similar vibe of Pike County. Obviously there isn't any known custody issues. Just a weird coincidence so far.

Saw a post saying Monique had an ex-husband. Anybody hear more solid detail on that? Were both of the kids by same dad? Curious.

I agree it's rare and statistically unlikely, and given the info thus far this seems like a rare case, thus being unsolved, and garnering so much attention and curiosity. The police could very likely be sitting on some key piece of info that would make it make more sense (like a jealous ex recently threatening them etc.) but given what we have to "web sleuth" on, it is curious, and given how the police are proceeding it doesn't seem so cut and dry. so rare possibilities enter.

Just been catching up on the thread - thanks for all your insights especially the locals on the thread it’s always insightful to get a feel for the area.

A few keep bringing up comparisons to the Bryan Kohberger case I just don’t see it - that house was a party house where security was not a huge priority or concern to them.

This is a family home with young children I really can’t see the parents leaving a door unlocked. MOO.

I think the perpetrator either knew the code for the door or knew how to override one of the electronic locks.

911 call reported domestic dispute at home of Ohio dentist, wife, months before they were found dead: report

This is from NY Post. <Admin note: NY Post is allowed and members can decide for themselves if they wish to rely on the content.>
It is interesting how everyone assumes a dentist's wife should speak in a particular way. If you check the comments in that article, people are saying "I can't believe a dentist's wife can speak like that".

yes, both her kids were with Spencer. She was married to the first husband from 2015-2017.

I feel going to someone's home is suggestive of personal history . No sign of forced entry. So did someone open the door to the assailant or where they already there in the home

From the quick action of the employee and brother saying his feelings are it was a targeted attack speaks to something going on that would result in the murder of this couple

Was the wife a stay at home mom or did she have a business of her own . The focus is on an assailant coming for Spencer but what if the target was monique?
Curious to know if either of them mentioned a problem with an ex or acquaintance. Jmo

I just saw a video on YouTube about that. I think Spencer and Monique were married around the time the first kid would have been concieved

In an odd way this reminds me of the idaho university murders. Hoping phone logs, cameras and phone pings, etc can help give more info

BIL Robert Misleh just went live on STS and said that 911 caller is absolutely not Monique, and many can corroborate. It was someone who attended a house party they hosted on that date.

I'll go out on a limb and say I don't think life insurance policies or wills were factors in this case.

Finances might be a motive, but not life insurance and wills. my opinion

jmopinion
I am trying to figure out what wills and insurance polices have to do with this case. This was not an extremely wealthy older couple where people would be fighting over inheritance, etc.

Yes money could be an issue but not life insurance and wills.

Strange that they would continue hosting late night parties at home with 2 small kids. The 911 call was past midnight I think.

I got a kick out of that. The house is only worth half a million dollars. Sad but true.
