Is the FBI involved at this point? I'm surprised that I still haven't seen a Seeking Info request. I haven't been following super closely but I'm getting mixed signals as to whether police think it was someone close (in which case public tips wouldn't be as helpful).

He was a vascular surgeon and would have had no difficulty finding another wife. But he apparently wouldn't let go and was obsessed with her. Now he'll probably spend the rest of his life in a prison cell.

No, it’s very easy to override these locks. They also have override keys. All you require is a some wire or a magnet. I believe entry was through balcony door or basement windows.
Well that's terrifying.

His last address was in Cherry Valley, IL. Looks like he also lived and practiced medicine in Las Vegas. A few traffic tickets in the past, then one more recent driving with a suspended license in 2018. That's it.
That is pretty rural, agricultural area in Illinois. They say Chicago, but it's about 2 hours west, in the central part of the state, near the Wisconsin border. Cherry Valley is a very little, nice town.

Maybe the restraining order, if there was one, was impacting his license to practice.
My question is why in the world would he be doing anything to them to even have someone file a restraining order-it’s been 5 yrs and seem to have gone their separate ways

Big Picture Summary

This record shows a divorce case with no children that was:

Filed: May 2, 2017
Completed / Closed: June 2017
Status: CLOSED
Outcome: Divorce finalized
There are no ongoing actions in this case.

Key Sections Explained

Case Type
“Divorce – No Children”

Means there were no minor children involved, so no custody, child support, or parenting plans.

Parties
Plaintiff: Monique F. Sabaturski
Defendant: Michael D. McKee

The plaintiff is simply the person who filed first — it does not mean fault.

Attorneys
Both parties are listed as representing themselves at times.

You’ll see entries like “Auto Appear Pro Se” and “Auto Atty Withdrawal” — this means:

An attorney may have been initially involved
Then automatically withdrawn
The parties proceeded without lawyers
This is very common in uncontested divorces.

Here’s the meaningful flow, ignoring repetitive admin entries:

Early May 2017
Case filed
Temporary orders entered (standard mutual restraining order — very normal)
Security deposit/legal aid entries (standard filing mechanics)

June 2017
Referral to private judge
Motions granted
Judgment entry
Divorce decree issued
Notice of final appealable order
👉 This is when the divorce became final.

After Finalization

A few cost bill and clerical/statistical entries
(These are bookkeeping items, not legal disputes.)

Case Closed
Status = CLOSED
No further hearings
No pending motions
No enforcement actions

What This Does NOT Show

❌ No restraining orders between the parties
❌ No domestic violence findings
❌ No custody disputes
❌ No ongoing legal conflict
❌ No appeals

Bottom Line

This was a straightforward, uncontested divorce that:
Moved quickly
Had minimal court involvement
Was finalized cleanly in about 6–7 weeks
Nothing here suggests drama, litigation battles, or unresolved issues.
I know the documents also showed that she claimed she bought both the engagement and wedding rings for herself, totaling $6000. Maybe he disputes that… $6000 8 years later seems like an overreaction but it can be shocking how petty some people can be and how long they can hold grudges.

Whatever the literal motive, his ego was clearly at the root of it. Two young kids are orphaned because of a bruised ego how disgusting.

When I heard that there was a recent court situation with the ex, it immediately made me suspicious. It all makes perfect sense now.

Good point, yes a protection order could impact MD licensure and the medical board could investigate the matter. The board has a duty to protect the public.

How would the ex possibly have known how to get into the house, where they'd be sleeping, if their dog wouldn't go apesht, if the husband had a bedside weapon, etc etc etc. Seems so incredibly risky.
Perhaps the code to their door lock was something easily guessable, like their wedding anniversary or a child's birthday?

Unfortunately this is a case of that old saying, “where there is a will there is a way.” Whatever his motive(will) was he was going to make a way. Definitely not rational thinking, but someone willing to kill a single person or two is not someone who thinks rationally. No matter how book smart you are, it goes to show that you can make dumb life decisions. Being in the medical profession myself, I’ve always said that doctors are no different than us, they put their pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else.

What a waste of a medical education. Now, who will be paying back all of those loans acquired over the years of medical school and what not?

My heart just breaks for those two little ones who lost BOTH parents and for the rest of the family and friends grieving the loss of their loved ones.

I hope he didn’t off any patients as a vascular surgeon (over the years).
This sounds personal. I get the feeling her has been bringing some drama to this couple for a while and even the reopening of the divorce case could show that he’s trying to make their life hell. He feels spited over something, probably financial. And jealousy and hatred and resentment due to her ~something~ such as her moving on and having a beautiful life (the wedding video would not have helped things). Probably blames her for something too.

Well, no one would answer the door to him or give him the code. so how did he get in?

How would he have even known what kind of lock they had that he'd be confident he could get in undetected?

I wonder if his medical license is suspended or anything

According to the Ohio Medical Board website, he currently does not have an active medical license in Ohio.

In other words he's currently not licensed to practice medicine in Ohio.

I believe Rockford, Illinois is pretty close to the Illinois and Wisconsin border.

Wonder if he even has a medical license in those states.

Interesting. I considered getting one, but decided against it.

Fascinating that he made this life choice given that he's supposed to be an intelligent guy as a surgeon. He's trading a good job for life without parole, presumably.
