there was a. good reason when family members got security before he was taken into custody.
Yep, and I think there was a reason that info got out to the public. They wanted him to know he couln't pull this again.

This is not the first time that a Columbus area doctors have been charged with serious crimes and had sensational trials in Franklin County.

A Columbus Dispatch newspaper article from 2021 details Columbus area doctors since the 1970's that went on trial for serious crimes.

5 Columbus doctors charged with serious crimes in Ohio history

Here is a thought. Could MM have been aware that some but not all of the Columbus area doctors that had criminal trials over the years were acquitted?

I'm wondering if he arrogantly believed that he can get away with murder and that he would be acquitted in a jury trial.

SBM, BBM. I watched the Banfield episode in question, but Spencer's BIL only says in an interview that Mckee made death threats to Monique during their marriage. BIL didn't know if the abuse was physical. I have yet to see family members or friends claim that threats continued after divorce or recently.
i think the BIL might want to stop making statements as he says different things in different interviews. I saw one where he said abuse was just emotional. I think for the case good idea to just talk only to the attorneys bring the case to lock McKee up forever.

i think he was driven only by extreme jealousy and wanted revenge on Monique and the man that he perceived took her away from him. We don't know when M and S met and it could have been during the short marriage. He was clearly fixated on them and i think thought only about how to kill them not about what happens next.

Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said in an Associated Press interview that authorities now believe Michael David McKee, 39, a vascular surgeon who was living in Chicago, was the person seen walking down a dark alley near Monique and Spencer Tepe's home in video footage from the night of the murders. His vehicle has also been identified traveling near the house, and a firearm found in his Illinois residence also traced to evidence at the scene, she said.

[..]

“What we can tell you is that we have evidence linking the vehicle that he was driving to the crime scene. We also have evidence of him coming and going in that particular vehicle,” Bryant told the AP. “What I can also share with you is that there were multiple firearms taken from the property of McKee, and one of those firearms did match preliminarily from a NIBIN (ballistic) hit back to this actual homicide.”

Bryant said that the department wants the public to keep the tips coming. Investigators were able to follow up on every phone call, email and private tip shared from the community to the department and some of that information allowed them to gather enough evidence to make an arrest, she said.

That work culminated in McKee's arrest Saturday in Rockford, Illinois, where the hospital where he worked — OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center — has said it is cooperating with the investigation. He has been charged with premeditated aggravated murder in the shooting deaths. Monique Tepe, who divorced McKee in 2017, was 39. Her husband, a dentist whose absence from work that morning prompted the first call to police, was 37.

I just wondered why though, seems so random.
it seems random but I think as the full story unfolds we will learn he was more active in stocking her and Spencer thruout the marriage....there may have been warnings. Officials have a lot of people to talk to, a ton of social media and computer files etc. Maybe not random at all. I see that the "random" may be questioning his drug levels. That is unknown at this time.

Spencer's BIL says that Monique was always afraid of her ex, but she didn't mention he made any "recent contact or anything". At 12:03:

The only subject I mentioned was the psychotropic drugs. Nothing else. And it was a “wondering” thing.
Psychotropic meds played a large role in many school shootings. You can do some research on that.
Many have argued that they may use that as his defense. Because they can cause a lot of problems.

Psychotropic meds do not cause a full grown adult to commit murder. They just don't do that. Most school shooters and otherwise antisocial folks are on psychotropic drugs because most have some type of mood disorder, but correlation is not causation when it comes to the meds.

It's like saying most people who suffer a second heart attack are on aspirin, so aspirin must cause heart attacks without considering the reason they're on aspirin is because they have blood clots and blood clots cause heart attacks.

It’s not random. Do research on the school shootings and the psych meds they were on,

Incorrect. Correlation is not causation, except maybe to defense attorneys.

Not sure if this was put out there but gave me food for thought....... Dr. McKee may have planned this for some time, as reports from Las Vegas News commenting on the trouble the courts were having on serving him for an up coming lawsuit. Appears the address he provided his employer were fake... and the phone number was to a fax number ... talk about planning..

just my thought

It's random in this case, we aren't talking about school mass shooters (an entirely different motivation, target and demographic). If we're going to throw out random, unsubstantiated info, since he played football in the past, maybe he had CTE. Personally, I think he is a grudge collector and an abuser (which has been confirmed by her family members). JMO

Almost ten years of terror for Monique, and still a tragic ending. I can’t believe they took so long to figure out it was him…
Just so sad.

I think they were just waiting on collecting enough evidence. He was probably under surveillance from very early on MOO

The family said they were convinced it was him from day 1 so I’d gather the police were to!
