Alcoholics, by definition, are powerless to stop or control their drinking without serious help. Go to an AA meeting and see if you can find a single alcoholic who quit because someone had a heart to heart with them.

Alcoholism is a disease, problem drinking is not. The very fact that someone can put down the bottle on the first try, and never look back is proof they were not an alcoholic. The exact same goes with cigarettes - there's a difference between habit and addiction.

Back on topic - Does anyone recall how many bottles of Vodka GG and RG bought for and during the trip? They didn't spend a lot of time in the room, so where were they drinking?

I agree, but problem drinking can progress into alcoholism don't you think, and some where along the line someone somewhere has to step in and try to help. But as an extra point Alcohol is much more available now that what it was say 20-30yrs ago.. Anyway as you say back onto topic.

In the US, if GG admitted, as he has, that Robyn was drinking and had taken an ambien that afternoon - he could be charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Robyn had a responsibility not to go snorkeling after taking a sleeping pill and drinking, but Giordano had a duty not to let her. It's not like he chased her down to keep her from going in - he went in with her.

Not only did he go in with her, but he was the one 'teaching her' to snorkel. Wouldn't the first rule of teaching snorkeling be that the student not be high on sleeping pills and vodka?

It happens all the time it is called "INTERVENTION"

....or a "problem drinker" They are one in the same just different stages of the disease.

OK--I am back on topic , sorry for the detour, LOL!

VLpate,

I ment no offence, only i have known people myself that have come back from the brink as it were, and the point that i was making was, that if nobody tries to help, there is no chance of a rescue from the abiss.. Thats all..

A liter of Vodka seems like quite a bit of alcohol for two people. How long was their trip?

No. It's a little over a quart and even if they ended up flushing it down the toilet it's cheaper than buying a smaller bottle. I believe they were suppose to be there the afternoon they arrived and 3 full days afterwards. jmo

I thought I read they bought an additional bottle. Either way, I would like to know what was left in that bottle when LE searched their room. How much time did they spend in their room that they would have been drinking?

I wish we knew the truth about the "juice".

Let's not make an effort to derail this thread. I believe vlpate's main point is to stop blaming the victim.

This is a thread for a missing RG. The fact that we discuss GG most of the time is because he was the only person there when she disappeared. His statement should have been clear, to the point and accurate to fit in with what the facts are involving the conditions that day and the environment. This did not happen. This is why he is a suspect, a major one at that.

When we look at the videos she is not dressed to go snorkeling. Put this together with a least 3 witnesses who claimed they left the area when GG claims, no, "we went right into the water...." it seems to be pretty clear who is telling the truth. It could be he tried to talk her into going into the water and she said she did not feel like getting into the water. All we know for sure is they did not stay there, they left. jmo

I will reopen this thread once everyone has a chance to think about something to post about this case and not each other.
