LA JOLLA, Calif. -- More than 20 homes have been threatened along a La Jolla hillside Wednesday as a 50-yard-wide, cone-shaped sinkhole swallowed part of a street leading into the ritzy area.

There were no immediate reports of injuries following the slide, which started around 9 a.m., a San Diego Fire-Rescue dispatcher said.

The sinkhole is in the middle of Soledad Mountain Road and is about 12 feet deep, Maurice Luque of the San Diego Fire Department said.

Much more at link.

Love Mama, I know you're in that area - and I'm sure there are others - I hope everyone and their homes are OK.

Hoping all of our WSer's in the area are good.

It's funny, but that's the first thing I think of now when I hear of this type of thing and I know we have members there!

I live about 20 miles north of La Jolla. Sinkholes have begun to be a huge problem all over the San Diego area.
