Found Deceased AU - Shereen Kumar Missing from Dural, NW of Sydney

Often times family, friends and associates of domestic violence victims haven't a clue about what goes on behind closed doors. L's comment under the article suggests to me Shereen's friends will be able to offer testimony that will help shine a light on her relationship with VC. May God grant them comfort and strength during their mourning and quest for justice.

Rest in peace, Shereen. :(

Carlino confided in the neighbours that he and Ms Kumar had a falling out a night earlier and shared the story he'd also told police - that she fled the home with nothing but pyjamas and the dressing gown on her back.

He also made a point of telling them that Ms Kumar suffered bouts of depression and that he'd 'keep them updated' with news,

The death of model and dogwalker Shereen Kumar has been mourned with tears and candles by loved ones, but also with anger by domestic violence campaigners who feel not enough is being done to stem the tide of women allegedly killed by their partners.

About 100 mourners - some friends, some concerned locals - braved cold weather to gather at Kenthurst Park, in Sydney's north-west, on Sunday afternoon to deliver tributes and light candles to commemorate Ms Kumar.

The event came just over a week since the 43-year-old was found dead in bushland four minutes away from her Dural home on July 23, bringing a four-day search to a gruesome end.

Her boyfriend Vincent Carlino, 37, has been charged with domestic violence murder.

In a lengthy letter to the court earlier this year, Carlino said he would live with the burden of guilt for the rest of his life.

'I am filled with profound remorse and guilt for my actions,' he said.

'I cannot sufficiently express the depth of the sorrow that I feel for the pain I have caused to Shereen's family and friends. I wish more than anything to turn back time and avoid this tragedy.

'I would like to offer my deepest apology to the Kumar family. I will be eternally plagued by my decisions, reactions and behaviour on this day.'

He will be eligible for release in July 2037

“The body count is just going to keep going on, and we have to do something serious about this, we have to look to our politicians to look at root causes,” she said.

“We have to look to rectifying it, and stop this onslaught every week, every day … it’s about keeping that pressure on our government to forget the platitudes and the regular announcements. We need action.”

Justice Sarah McNaughton said Carlino was “insecure” and “deceptive” and took considerable steps to cover up his crime, including erroneously trying to blame Kumar’s mental health and framing her as erratic and emotional as he spun his story about her disappearance.

“This was an attack on a woman in her own home where she was entitled to feel safe and secure, by a partner who at that time not only did not care for her nor keep her safe, but violently attacked her, causing her death,” the judge said.
