He said in an earlier report that it was coloured batting. I asked upthread if anyone had ever used coloured batting, and received no replies. White, black and natural are normal colours for batting, but I don't consider those coloured. Was an old wool blanket used?

In one of the pictures of the quilt, you can see a row of white zig-zagging on the batting that makes me wonder if the batting was pieced together along that line.

I've never seen colored batting at Spotlight (which is where I go) but I have used old woollen or cotton blankets as a kind of batting for picnic blankets or couch throws because it's usually much cheaper for something not as 'special'. Come to think of it, the only colors I've seen in Spotlight for batting is white and cream.

New clues in 'girl in the suitcase' murder as boxer shorts match boys' pyjama set on ebay, 'Sally' clothes tag found ... but maker of 'Gaf' label says it's not his
"But the former manufacturer of another of the labels - 'Gaf', which was found on a child's pink singlet top - says the label is not his, despite the fact he sold up to 70,000 garments a week to Target, Best & Less and Big W from the exclusively children's clothing business he ran in the Sydney suburb of St Peters.
Mr Eric Bursztyn, who made clothes under the labels of Misty, Billy the Kid and Gaf, which is short for G A Fashions, said his label was different to the one featured in the South Australian Police images."

Ditto, my eyes have gone wonky from looking at patterned quilts for hours on end[emoji12] I'm yet to find anything the same.
Just wanted to mention if you look at the S.A quilters guild they sell kits for quilts including ispy sets for $25. This could explain the random patches that don't seem to match.

A guild would likely buy bolts of matching fabric and cut them up into kits. I would be really surprised to find such an odd collection of fabrics in a kit put together by a guild. They are usually pretty proud of their artistry. That makes me think it's assembled from someone's stash.

ha ha my eyes did go wonky they arent circles no more they're the shape of hexies. =))) And that's kyja, i did see alot of those i spy patch set's that you mention but i couldn't find any fabrics that seem to match the ones that we have been shown on the quilt, and i looked through the SA quilt blog right up too 2006. That camel print that was found... it's really different. I hope that can give some clues....it might not of been purchased by any fabric stores in SA

All these cheap knock-off clothes...it looks like whoever is connected to this little girl spent a lot of time online and getting deliveries from ebay or cheap chinese sites. I wonder if the nearest post office could shed any light?

I wonder if it was fussy cut from a fabric tht doesn't look like a bunch of camels. Could it be from a Disney print of some kind? Maybe from one of the kids movies that came out a few years ago? Moses? Aladdin? What other desert location movies are there?

Or maybe a Christmas print ... the wise men? The octagons are about 12 cm, so fairly small.

We sure are padding out some Daily Mail articles these days.

Updated article includes info found here about the Sally label just yesterday.

A tiny railway siding township 120km south-east of Adelaide, Wynarka lies on the truck route between the South Australian grain belt and Port Adelaide.

I think that may be important.

It all look's like white batting to me? I can see the the batting has been discoloured from the quilt border inwards but i had just assumed that was from the washable applique paper. and i can see the white zig zag stiching also now, there is 3 rows of it near the pumpkin patch. Maybe there was 2 types of batting used a smaller square piece then some old scraps to extend the size

Congratulations on your sleuthing! Have just caught up with this case by reading all three threads. My gut instinct still says that someone wanted this suitcase and the bones found, maybe a conscience pricking after many years, I think they don't want to become involved because they possibly know who is responsible. It could be the parent/carer of the person responsible or it could be someone who has found the case amongst an older relative's belongings after they have deceased and wants closure without involvement. You guys are awesome with the amount of time that you put in. Hoping that this little girl once knew she was loved.

Does anyone else think the quilt looks like it had been fairly new when the child was killed? Around the edges where the musical fabric is less damaged the colours look quite vibrant. Friends gave me a quilted bouncenette liner when I had my baby and it looked faded and shabby really quickly because it needed washing pretty much every time it was used, as babies/little kids stuff usually does.

I think there are no prices that are printed on a label.
Not in Australia, but perhaps elsewhere? (I'm not travelled.) With the currency not stated, it would need to be a normal practice in the region to put the price on the label for it to be understood.

I thought the picture was a pineapple but the woolly hat doesn't seem to belong to a pineapple theme. Then I thought it was perhaps a fish, or a boat.

'Haole' is a word used in Hawaii, and Hawaii would fit pineapples. 'Haola' as a Chinese-origin brand is connected to handbags and shoes. The picture doesn't seem very appropriate to either of those.

I think because of the color of the patches rubbed off on the next layer of fabric during have been folded up, there had to be some humidity in the middle of the package. Otherwise the color wouldn't have rubbed of.

I think it's possible the body was wrapped in the quilt and then burried. If you look at the quilt and the decomposition, it seems very possible. The girl was about 90-95cm according to police. The quilt is 90cm.

I think it is extremely unlikely to be a price, it's most probably a size or age number.

Haola could well be a word that a Chinese manufacturer would use because they thought it sounded Hawaiian rather than having any actual meaning.

I'm sill convinced it's a pineapple. Could be a headband rather than a wooly hat?

I tink Go Lo changed to cheap as chips in south Australia.....not sure when though

Hello,
Long time reader (catcher upperer) first time poster.
Previously there seemed to be a lot of talk about water, storage etc. I have no idea about what has happened to Angel but have a few scenarios as to some theories put forth and this is pure speculation about one.
I do not put any person forth as a suspect and am only referencing similar conditions to what has been discussed on the forum.
With regards to the water this case reminds me of some similarities to Jaidyn Leskie's case (RIP Beautiful Boy) who went missing in Moe, Victoria 1997. Aside from the glaring difference that Jaidyn was reported missing the next day I'm not sure that this is how Angel came to be where and how she was found, obviously not where, but the environment in which she was found.
Jaidyn was 13 months and 2 weeks old when he went missing on Sunday 15th June, 1997. He was found 01.01.98 in Blue Rock Dam, Moe (Newborough). He had been placed in a (pink) sleeping bag that had been weighted down with a crow bar and was found with items placed in this bag.
Due to the summer temps being warmer this is believed to have accelerated the decomposition process placing strain on the stitching of the sleeping bag thereby releasing Jaidyn's body and the contents inside.
This may be a reason why the time frame for Angel's death is now 2007 to 12-18 months, if there is water component involved. (Sorry graphic) but turtles, yabbies and fish etc can contribute to a body becoming skeletonised.
I have referenced Jaidyn's case only for an explanation as to the water scenario discussed, my heart goes out to Jaidyn's parents. Jaidyn is forever remembered and loved.

PS. How awesome are you all with your sleuthing? Exceptional and I am astounded. Well done.

What do you all think of this one for a match?

Just bumping this forward so our latest posters can see that Nataliah very cleverly matched the camel fabric earlier in this thread.

That pineapple tag is bugging me - it's so distinctive yet so hard to find. Searching for the word sends you on a wild goose chase - I ended up with a list of dodgy looking sites that I couldn't understand, and that didn't have anything to do with children's or women's clothing. I wasn't about to click on any of them. Apart from being soiled like the rest of the tags, I'm thinking it looks very retro and aged. Maybe from quite an old item - as in way older than 2007?
