Popular Australian TV personality Dr James Wright has died aged 94 years old, just short of his 95th birthday.
The Brisbane-born doctor is most well-known for his appearances across a host of popular TV and radio shows spanning several decades.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford told The Morning Show on Tuesday that Dr Wright had the unique ability to make complex medical issues understandable and not frightening.

“He was on air during the early days of AIDS, and that was a very scary time for a lot of people,” he said.

“He was great TV talent ... he was always so affable and charming and funny.”

Behind the scenes Dr Wright was also a great philanthropist, setting up the Medi-Aid Centre Foundation with his wife in 1971 to provide secure accommodation for older people on low incomes.

“There are now hundreds of people on the Gold Coast and in Sydney who are living in really nice accommodation directly because of the work of Dr James Wright,” Ford said.

“He was a remarkable human being.”

Dr Wright is survived by four children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
