Police hope a $250,000 reward will finally smoke out the killer of an 18-year-old door-to-door bookseller, 44 years after she was murdered in far north Queensland.

Detectives believe Catherine Pamela Graham was murdered while selling educational books in Townsville on the evening of July 29, 1975, police said in a statement on Wednesday.

Ms Graham, whose body was found 18 kilometres outside the city on the Flinders Highway, died from head injuries.
