She must have tried to find shelter. Are there any caves? Wouldn't be surprised of they can't find her, or it will be a long time until someone just by chance finds her remains.

“We’ve been over the walking tracks in the area several times and now with the advent of wet weather, it’s proving too dangerous to continue to send large search teams out into the more rugged, inaccessible terrain,” Assistant Commissioner Clifford added.

“We will continue to search some of the more isolated areas using specially-trained rescue personnel from Police Rescue, the Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) and other local groups because we desperately want to find Ms O’Pray.

Anyone who can assist is urged to contact or attend the Katoomba Police Station or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

With the amount of bush walkers & tourists this long Easter weekend maybe, just maybe someone will find Elizabeth.
It's too late to expect her alive though.

It now wait and see.

Someone, one day might stumble upon Elizabeth's remains somewhere in a secluded gully.

Elizabeth might have seen lights in the distance and decided to take the shortest route towards them, fallen injured and could not climb out.

She was a walker so would have been reasonably fit but she was in her 70's and sometimes the mind is able but the body isn't.

How could she have gotten so lost, in her own backyard so to speak, that she couldn't find a way back to a road/path/houses etc? She used to walk in that area regularly. She must have decided to explore new terrain, or as they'll get you says above, must have fallen or something. But in her phone conversation in the very beginning she only mentions being lost, not being injured. She might have made the mistake of not staying put after that phone call.

These walkers had a guide and they had a GPS which guided rescuers directly to their location.
Is this something like what happened to Elizabeth?

A seriously injured bushwalker has spent the night in thick Blue Mountains bushland after an overnight rescue operation failed.

The 39-year-old woman fell 10 metres off a cliff edge, sustaining leg and pelvic injuries, while hiking with a group at Mount Tomah on Friday night, NSW police say.

The group became lost before the woman fell at around 9.30pm, with paramedics reaching her two hours later, but dense bushland hindered her rescue.

Just goes to show how inaccessible some of the terrain where the search for Elizabeth took place. It can take decades to find the remains of a small aircraft, let alone a person. The Blue Mountains LAC Police Facebook page recently posted this.

"During our ongoing search operations for missing person Elizabeth O'Pray, rescue operators located a badly damaged aircraft wreckage in a remote creek line north of Katoomba."

(snip)

"After extensive enquiries by Police and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau it was eventually identified as a Cropmaster YA-1 crop duster that crashed over half a century ago."

4 months later and she still hasn't been found it seems. Are they still searching for her or given up? Nothing in the news one way or the other.

Could this be Elizabeth as she was at Medlow Bath and these remains were found next town up at Blackheath. LE know what clothing Elizabeth was wearing so they'd put 2 & 2 together.

Interesting to note in this article these remains could be a suspected suicide

Human bones found in Bedford Creek, Blue Mountains

A human skull and other remains have been found in Bedford Creek by a bird watcher on Wednesday afternoon (June 6).

Blue Mountains Police Inspector Scott McAlpine said the bones were discovered in bushland near a makeshift camp underneath a rockledge.

Insp McAlpine said that cards and documentation were discovered at the makeshift camp, for a person who had been reported missing from another police local area command.

Probably not Elizabeth

There was phone contact between Ms O'Pray, her family and members of the search and rescue squad on Tuesday.

"For example, yesterday a pair of prescription eye glasses was found in remote bushland," Inspector Balatincz said.

"We went to the point of actually ensuring that they didn't belong to Betty. So, that's how thorough the search is actually getting."
