Human remains discovered during building work in Victoria's north

An investigation is underway after bones were found during construction works for a $13.3-million project at Echuca.

An investigation is underway following the discovery of human remains at a park in Echuca late last week.

Campaspe Shire Council said workers discovered the bones during construction for the $13.3 million Victoria Park upgrade and police and the coroner were notified.

Victoria Police said the bones were examined and found to be human.

Victoria Police said the Echuca Crime Investigation Unit was investigating the matter and the bones would undergo further forensic testing.

The circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be established.

Police have now revealed forensic testing on the remains has been completed.

“The remains have been determined to be historical,” Victoria Police said.
