Police launch fresh search of WA outback over Ray and Jennie Kehlet cold case

Police have returned to the site of an unsolved suspected double murder in Western Australia's outback after revealing they are looking for fresh "items of interest".

Now the ABC understands WA Police will spend a number of days this week searching the area for fresh evidence.

They will also be on the lookout for missing items belonging to Ms Kehlet, including her work boots and gloves, and the key to the couple's quad bike.

Mr Kehlet's brother, Dave Kehlet, said he's never stopped hoping for a breakthrough.
"It's pointless to not have hope, it's absolutely pointless to give up," he said.

"We have hope that someone will come across something, whether that's the cold-case group or a local to the area or people that are actively searching on their own behalf."

Cold case detectives search for remains of WA woman

Cold case detectives are sending cameras down hundreds of mineshafts in WA's Goldfields as they search for the remains of Jennie Kehlet.

9News was alongside police as they used the cameras to search the 300 mine shafts.

It's the new cold case team's eighth trip to the Goldfields this year.

Covering more than 2000 square kilometres, they're forced to think outside the box.

"We've made up a box with recording equipment that we're sending down into as many mine shafts as we can just to see what's at the bottom of the mineshafts to see if we can locate Jenny," Detective Sergeant Peter Sloan said.

Cold case investigations Detective Sergeant Peter Sloan said his team had made eight trips to Sandstone over the last year to search for new evidence, and were now able to reach areas that were previously off limits.

"[In 2015] there were a number of mine shafts that were located but unable to be properly examined," he said.

"We've now got new equipment that we can lower into a lot of these mine shafts, including water wells."
