All JMO:
So he was sent to various boarding schools throughout his teenage years. That must have been horrible for him, to be away from his home and his family, being bullied, if not worse.
Then he gets home and perhaps was understandably very depressed or anxious and was sent to this hospital for help. IF he willingly walked out, why the need to "lose" his case file? Why the need for the doctor to hide, instead of just saying, We are so sorry but he left and we can't force someone to stay? I wonder what happened at that hospital.
I hope he had many times in his life that he did feel loved and safe. Poor young man.
