The search for a missing Queenslander has shifted to a remote corner of the Northern Territory outback, more than two months after he was last seen.

While police initially said Mr English may have gone north to Mackay or returned to the state's south-east, they now believe he crossed the Northern Territory border.

A group of cyber sleuths from Adelaide has taken out the national missing persons "hackathon", finding nearly 100 new pieces of information for police to investigate.

The team from Saab Australia placed first out of 96 teams which took part in the National Missing Persons Hackathon last week.

The event was the first of its kind to be held in Australia and saw more than 350 "ethical hackers" gather at 10 locations around the country to generate leads for 12 of Australia's missing-person cold cases.

Peter English last contacted his family from Mount Isa on February 11, 2019, and his car was seen in the Tennant Creek area of the Northern Territory the following day.
Neither Mr English nor his car has been seen since then.

"We have confirmed he was in the Northern Territory at the Barkly Homestead, from there, unfortunately, our leads go cold," Acting Senior Sergeant Cupitt said.

Acting Senior Sergeant Cupitt said when someone was reported and considered missing, they were put into risk categories depending on different circumstances.

"Obviously Mr English was a high-risk missing person, and we've conducted inquiries and investigations to try and locate him from those initial times that he was reported (missing) by his ex-wife and his father," he said.

The day Peter English disappeared, he was due at his parents’ house in Maryborough, Queensland, to pick up some motorcycles and his cousin Isaac.

But when Peter arrived, he swapped out his 4WD for his newly purchased Ford Falcon, threw the rest of his keys on the back laundry floor and sped off.

The next morning, February 11, 2019, he sent his father Gary a cryptic text.

“See if I can tick one off my bucket list,” he wrote.

“I saw that text, so I returned a text straight away, and I didn’t get a reply, so I tried to ring him,” Gary told NCA NewsWire.

“His phone was turned off. It’s never been turned on ever since; we’ve tried that many times.

“He’s never used the phone ever again. That’s the last contact we ever had with him.”

I used Google Maps to see the relationship of all the locations:

• Mount Isa - Location where Peter was last seen when he was first reported missing
• Barkly Homestead - Where the investigation determined that Peter had been seen (according to Google Maps, it is a rural lodging with meals and a pool)
• Tennant Creek - A location where Peter was seen, driving south towards Ali Curung. Tennant Creek is about 1/2 way between Barkly Homestead and Ali Curung, along the shown route.
• Ali Curung - Near where the remains were found, at a remote cattle station, and where Peter's car was headed to.

If anyone has more local knowledge, feel free to add to or edit this map, as I don't know the area. Has the vehicle been found?
