Initial Police Release

At a press conference today, Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said the area around the skeletal remains was charred, although he said the state of the bones might be the result of decomposition.

"We're conducting our investigations to firstly ascertain, obviously a cause of death.

"But secondly to that, trying to establish whether it is a male or female at this point in time.

"Our investigations are really only in their infancy, and we really don't have a lot of information at this point in time to support any theories or anything of that nature."

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said police are investigating human remains found near a 4WD track in the Glasshouse Mountains.

Det Snr Sgt Mansfield said it would be treated as a suspicious death until they find evidence to show otherwise.

He said two men driving on a remote four-wheel-drive track found the remains about midday yesterday.

"These young gentleman driving four-wheel-drives out there have come across what they believed was a deceased person and it was just off a dirt track in the forestry area there," he said.

Due to a lack of phone reception, they could not report their find until they got home.

The men took police to the scene last night.

Det Snr Sgt Mansfield said only a lighter was found with the remains, which were discovered in heavy scrub off Connection Road in the Beerburrum State Forest.

"It looks like there's at least some charred areas," he said.

"But we're just trying to ascertain whether it's just decomposition -- there's no extended fire area, so we're not ruling that out."

He said the level of decomposition meant it was difficult to begin working out a time of death or whether the person died there or was dumped.

The Glasshouse Mountains are a popular adventure destination.

Det Snr Sgt Mansfield said the remains would be sent to Brisbane today.

"Pathologists will conduct an autopsy that we're hoping will be done in a matter of days," he said.

He said there were no reports of missing persons in the area, and the remains were not those of Nate Preston, a local 20-year-old who has been missing since May 22.

"Officers arrived on scene on Connection Rd about 8pm due to the remoteness of the area in the Beerburrum West State Forest"
However, Sergeant Mansfield confirmed the body was not that of missing Nambour man Nate Preston who went missing in Mooloolaba on May 22.

“Whilst (pathologists) can’t give us a male or female, the stature is of someone who is of a smaller person (than Nate) but not a child, it would be a teen if it was.”

A police statement on Wednesday said the remains would be sent for further analysis which might establish a gender.

He also added they have not been able to link the case with any known missing persons and urged the public to contact police if they know of anyone missing in the area.

Two people have been charged following the discovery of human remains at the Glass House Mountains earlier this week.
It’s believed the remains are those of 57-year-old Caboolture woman Donna Howe, who was last seen by family in late April.
Police executed a search warrant at a Balkee Drive, Caboolture address yesterday and have since charged a 41-year-old man and 31-year-old man with one count each of murder and misconduct with a corpse.
Police will allege both the accused were known to the victim.

That was quick! I wouldn’t be surprised if they knew the victim was dead and were just waiting for evidence in the form of a body to show up!

Housemate, frequent visitor charged with murder over Glasshouse Mountains body

Two men have faced court charged with murder after human remains were found at the Glasshouse Mountains on the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.
Police have revealed the two men were known to the victim. One of the accused was the victim’s housemate, while the second defendant frequented their home in Caboolture, north of Brisbane.

Forensic testing continues on the remains and an autopsy was due to be conducted on Friday, but police believe the identity of the deceased to be Donna Howe, a 57-year-old Caboolture woman.

She was last seen by family in late April and early May, but only reported missing on Sunday.

Police have charged 31-year-old Braydon Franklin and 41-year-old Clinton Travis Oliver, both from Caboolture, with one count each of murder and misconduct with a corpse.

Yes Le were onto this pretty quick and made an arrest within days of the body being found in June.
The two men faced court in June, charged with Murder.
Yes, it’s great the people responsible were caught so quickly. I just posted the article as it stated the remains had been identified and I couldn’t see that confirmed elsewhere.

Yes, her name was mentioned early on, but the identity was still to be confirmed, so I linked that article so that the thread can be marked as Identified.
