A high-profile former AFL player has been accused of trafficking large amounts of illicit drugs across Australia after police raided his Melbourne home.

Retired St Kilda defender Sam Fisher is being held in police custody after he was arrested at his property on Bay Road in Sandringham yesterday morning.

Police allegedly found drugs, including ice and a GHB precursor, at the property and seized a Mercedes-Benz, which they allege is the proceeds of crime.

Fisher appeared in court in May 2023 and pleaded not guilty to 8 charges. He was instructed to return to court in February this year and then face an estimated 10 day long trial in April this year.

The fact that there is nothing in the media at present probably suggests Fisher is headed to court very shortly.

Sam Fisher was sentenced to a maximum five-years and four- month prison term on 16 May 2024.
