Grandmother Stacey Klimovitch shot dead in Stockton after answering front door

NSW Police believe a grandmother who was shot dead after answering a knock at the front door of her Newcastle home on Tuesday night was the victim of a targeted attack.

Police were called to a home on Queens Street in Stockton just after 8:00pm last night following reports of a shooting.

Stacey Klimovitch, 61, died at the scene after she was shot in the chest by a shooter that fled on foot.

Officers said Stacey Klimovitch, 61, was shot after she answered her front door last night at a home on Queen Street in the Newcastle suburb of Stockton.

Her 31-year-old daughter and eight-week-old granddaughter were home at the time of the shooting. The pair had recently moved in after becoming estranged from the child's father.

This Herald Sun article says that they have CCTV that could 'possibly' be of the gunman. And that everyone is a suspect.

They think it was a targeted shooting. And they have already interviewed a few persons of interest.

They want more dashcam video to help crack the case.

Superintendent Humphrey said ...... “We have some vision we think is the person, but we are (after) dashcam vision because that’s the one that will pick the person up walking along the street that a house (CCTV) might miss”.

Apparently, Stacey had a brief argument with the shooter before the shooter fired through the screen door.

The shooter fled on foot. Strike Force Backhouse was formed to investigate.

“The Klimovitch family have been great supporters of sport in the Newcastle area for over 25 years and Stacey has probably taught most of Stockton how to swim!"

The thought occurred to me that it might be something to do with her coaching.
Some parents can take their kids sport very seriously.

I was thinking it could have been rage because their child was not selected or something.

The boyfriend of a woman who heard her mother shot dead as she answered the front door of her Stockton flat has been arrested over unrelated firearm offences.
Police officers linked to Strike Force Backhouse, which was set up to investigate what senior police have called a targeted attack, arrested the 28-year-old man as he arrived at a Heddon Greta business about 8am.

Police said the man had been arrested “on unrelated firearm offences” after a weapon was allegedly found in his possession.

The gun is not linked to the Stockton shooting.
A crime scene warrant is also believed to have been conducted on a Heddon Greta residence.

The man was taken to Maitland police station where he was expected to be charged on Thursday night with firearm offences, which police have stressed are not related to the Stockton shooting.

Police also stressed no arrests had been made in relation to the shooting,

Sounds like they could be onto him, and are not going to give him any wiggle room to flee.

The timing of this arrest is too much of a coincidence.

New DT article says ....

Detectives are going to look deeply into Stacey's life, as they try to work out who killed her.
They have been scouring the community for CCTV.
They are still convinced this was a targeted murder ... detectives and analysts are working overtime looking at Stacey's life.
They have sent away evidence from a "crude chlorine bomb" that Stacey's neighbour discovered some time ago. They don't know if this device was related to Stacey's recent murder.

Detectives have interviewed Stacey's daughter Alex who was with her 8 week old child in another part of the small flat, when Stacey was killed.
They will be taking detailed statements from other family and friends.
They are getting ready for a drawn out investigation.

They have found footage of the suspected killer on home CCTV near Stacey's house.

This murder is not related to the suspected murder of Steven Fenwick who is believed to have been murdered in Stockton two years ago and dumped elsewhere. His murderer is still at large.

FRIENDS have described how Stacey Klimovitch was 'scared at times to leave her own home' following threats in the lead up to her murder in Stockton on Wednesday night. It's understood her 31-year-old daughter and newborn baby granddaughter were inside the house at the time of the shooting.

A man has been charged with murder, and another arrested, over the shooting death of a Newcastle woman almost six months ago.

On Friday, detectives arrested Stuart Daniel Campbell, 29, in Newcastle and he was later charged with murder.

With assistance from the Australian Federal Police, Jason Hawkins, 46, was arrested in the ACT on Friday night.
