Can't get over the sloppiness of the attempted cover up. Why did he not just throw the keys given to SS into the canal along with her laptop?

Another theory on the photo: perhaps, as has been suggested earlier on this thread, he actually went back to SS a second time. (I'm referring to the initial setting alight (sorry) and then the time it would take for the fire to have extinguished. Awful thought.)

I'm wondering if the purpose of the photo was to examine it later at home to satisfy himself that the remains were unrecognisable.

The Griffith road appears long and secluded for many intermittent miles followed by canals so why did this knucklehead stop right in front of a shed with trucks, cars and people who could have seen him.

Was it catch me if you can?

It's all pointing to VS having a history. I've noticed in court cases there can be a ban on MSM publishing a perp's prior history to ensure a 'fair trial'.

If his past was covered up by his family then, I think, the Leeton community will be furious and justly so.

Sometimes one person's covered up past is another's fresh start away from negative influences.

But would anyone really sit back and just hope for the best, when that person with the covered up past now has access to children and keys to a school?

What I mean is in high school some of the advanced computer courses would have some 'top notch' expensive applications he could maybe use. My nephew learned web development in high school. Maybe VS couldn't afford the advanced apps or worked offline.

Snipped by me.

You can't just walk into a school, turn the computer on and use it. You have to log in with your personal username and password and only teachers or students with the department have that. He was not employed by the department, so he would not have a username and would not be able to use the computer.

I think VS was not instructed to clean on Easter Sunday, but he has still might want to do. Maybe he sat for hours on his PC and neglected his duties (as I do, because I want to read on WS) and VS had to do his work on Sunday instead of Saturday. Certainly he had the keys and because he lives close to the school, he could secretly clean later than planned. IMO

That is not how it works. The cleaning contractors negotiate hours for the cleaners to be at the school. If he stayed at home playing on the computer and didn't go to work on time he would be fired. It's not like freelance work where you just have to get the job done, there are certain hours the cleaners have to be at the school.

Does that mean he tried to strangle a teacher? Maybe he has a hatred of teachers.

While disturbing, I found this link interesting re the forensics:

http://forensicoutreach.com/three-ways-to-detect-pre-burning-trauma-on-burned-bones/

Thanks for the link Annap. Here is an excerpt with implications for this case:

"In less than an hour, a fire can reduce a human body to unrecognizable charred remains. Trauma that would normally be easily visible on a body is obscured by fire damage to the soft tissue and bones. It’s no wonder, then, that criminals often use fire in an attempt to cover up violent crimes"...

Yes I think that is why he had to burn her body instead of just dumping it. I would hazard a guess and say Stephanie was horribly attacked. It just kills me to write that. Such a bright vibrant girl.

I'm thinking the same. This crime is personally one of the worst I've come across, and all the details and circumstances are still yet to emerge. I just can't fathom the horror of her final moments. Whether she was lured away or caught off guard, both scenario is horrific. I can't imagine the terror she must have felt when he likely cornered her, or she realised she'd been baited and caught.

I can't imagine what it has been like for her family & Aaron or what it will be like in the weeks to follow.

Is there any chance the media have been completely off with the age of VS? Even with his face blocked out, his twin brother looked MUCH older than 24. Also, in the picture released of his mother & younger brother (said to be 19) he looks MUCH older. Just weird.

I get so upset when I think of her Fiancé Aaron. His whole future has been cruely ripped away. I really don't know how you would ever recover from something like this :(
I hope he has very good support and for a very long time. I really worry about his mental health.

IIRC Luke is older than the twins? I was sure the media said he was an older brother?

I don't think anyone ever really believes someone they love is capable of this sort of horror. So they don't really grasp the full extent of his disordered mind in the first place and then they tell themselves it's ok. It's those guys he was hanging around with over there, he's medicated now, he hated his old job and that made him unbalanced but he loves the new one, he seems so much happier here, it was a personality clash with that one particular person, the way he tells it he was provoked and while that doesn't make it ok it makes it easier to understand and to believe it won't happen again, he was cooped up in a city and it affected his state of mind but we're in the country now and can camp and bike ride, which is all good for him. <-- I made every one of those up, no insider information. Just trying to demonstrate the stories people tell themselves to reassure themselves that it really is ok. That makes them human.

In the absence of enough information to conclude his family were wilfully negligent, I err on the side of assuming they were out of their depth and acting in good faith. Their assistance to the police would seem to point to people who didn't stubbornly cling to denial. They have my pity and compassion until it's proven that they deserve neither.

I've only ever seen LS referred to as an older brother, and I don't think his twin brother necessarily looks older than 24 - the premature balding probably has a bit of an aging effect in some folks eyes. I think that's why these days we see so many men of all ages with their heads completely shaved - it's less aging than having a half bald head. Not terribly important in the scheme of things though, and kind of unfair of us (including me just now) to be dissecting the appearance of family members anyway.

The article states this is his older brother, not a younger brother.

They all look a bit older than they are I think, all balding. MS with his face blurred out enhances that perception, but he actually looks much younger in the face (perfectly compatible with being 24), ie the part you can't see when blurred out.

The facial hair makes them look older too; I have similar facial hair to Luke in that linked photo and always get told I look much younger when I shave it off occasionally.
