Queensland detectives are excavating a Bracken Ridge site in Brisbane's north after suspecting foul play in the disappearance of Priscilla Brooten.

The 46-year-old US citizen lived in Redcliffe and Bracken Ridge for the past six years and was last seen in July last year in Bracken Ridge.

Police said family and friends have had no contact from Ms Brooten and have significant concern for her safety.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Hogan said Ms Brooten's disappearance was now being treated as a homicide investigation."

Priscilla Brooten was formally reported missing in December last year but the 46-year-old was last seen in July, in Bracken Ridge.

The police confirmed that the cold case disappearance was now a homicide investigation.

They were also forensically examining the house and a car at the property.

“I can confirm there’s a 42-year-old gentleman from Bracken Ridge who is assisting police with their inquiries,” detective senior sergeant Michael Hogan told reporters in Brisbane on Saturday.

The pair had been in a relationship for a year before Brooten disappeared and police say the man failed to report her missing.
Police excavate Brisbane property in search for US woman missing since July

"A man who had been in a relationship with a missing US woman has been taken into custody as detectives continue excavating the front yard of a Brisbane home.

On Saturday afternoon, the 42-year-old Bracken Ridge man was assisting police with their investigations into keen online gamer Priscilla Brooten's disappearance....

Cadaver dogs led police to the site but charges had not been laid and police said no evidence had been found during the ongoing dig...
“The dogs have given us an indication and what we do from there is we explore that through the excavation and the result of that won't be known for some time," he said. "The excavation as you can imagine will take sometime and as that information comes to light and if we can share it, we will.""

This is all over our MSM this morning, and they are now naming the man who spent last night in police custody.

Yesterday, Queensland Police begun digging at the home of her ex-partner Mark Wayden in Brisbane’s north.

Detectives are investigating a tip from neighbours who said the 42-year-old had been digging at an area of the front yard.
Mr Wayden has been cooperating with police and no charges have been laid.

Police suddenly announced yesterday this missing person's case had become a homicide investigation.

“We can confirm Operation Quebec Storage is now a homicide investigation. We have a number of enquiries and today the focus will be on the search and excavation at a residence in Bracken Ridge,” Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Hogan said in a statement.
Police investigating woman’s suspected murder dig up home

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Hogan said Ms Brooten was heavily involved in online gaming and he believed her friends in chat groups may be able to help piece together her last moves.

"Police suspect a lot of people she associated with online and also in some private clubs may not know that police are investigating her disappearance," he said.
"Often these people may not have known that she was reported missing.
"Any contact she had with them may help the investigation."

Detective Senior Sergeant Hogan said Ms Brooten has a daughter and mother in California.
He said Ms Brooten, 46, is described as an outgoing, friendly person and a dedicated mother who enjoyed yoga and Zumba.

Police are also appealing for information about Ms Brooten's blue Volkswagen Golf hatchback, which was found abandoned on Bunton Street, Scarborough on July 6 last year.
The car has also been declared a crime scene.
"We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the car being left in the street that night or may have noticed anything suspicious in the area that night to come forward," Detective Senior Sergeant Hogan said.
"Regardless of how trivial you think the information might be, it may be crucial to our investigation."

Missing American woman's partner in custody as police excavate yard

"The daughter of missing US woman Priscilla Brooten hopes Queensland detectives can close the homicide case as police continue to dig up a front yard in Brisbane's north.

Caity Brooten, 22, said police were searching the front yard of a Bracken Ridge home because they believed he mother's body was buried there.

"I kind of suspected that it was going to be a murder case because my mother was a very beautiful woman and she had no other reason to go missing," she said. "I hope they do find her body, at least for some closure."

Police hunt for missing US woman continues
"Police are testing items dug up at a Brisbane home as they continue their hunt for the missing woman.

Forensic officers will stay at the property until the house has been searched inside and out."

The fact that the cadaver dogs were very interested in that dug up area is quite important. I wonder if Priscilla was there, and has been moved.

Thanks, Morrisa. Well, the police must have something that links Waden to Priscilla's murder. Perhaps the murder weapon and/or other evidence was retrieved from the dug up section of the garden.

I'm thinking that Priscilla has been transported and left elsewhere, as her car is also a crime scene.

I guess that's about all we will hear for now, other than Waden's court appearances, as sub judice will go into effect.

"Ms Brooten's 43-year-old partner of one year, Mark Waden, was taken into custody on the weekend but released without charge.
He was again taken into custody on Thursday afternoon and charged with murder.
He is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday."

A car towing a council bin is the latest clue released to the public in the investigation into the disappearance of former beauty queen Priscilla Brooten.

On Friday, detectives released photos of a car towing a council bin through Stathpine on May 6.
Priscilla Brooten.

"As part of ongoing inquiries investigators reviewing CCTV footage are particularly interested in motorists or members of the public who may have witnessed a white sedan towing a trailer travelling around the Strathpine area on Monday, May 6 this year," police wrote in a statement.

"Police are appealing for anyone who may recognise the vehicle to come forward."

Oh no, not another deceased person stuffed inside a wheelie bin as if they were rubbish! This is happening far too often.

Maybe they want witnesses to possibly identify who may have been driving the vehicle, and to find out where the vehicle went so they can find Priscilla.

"Mr Waden is also accused of interfering with his girlfriend's corpse."

Has there been any further development in this case?

Not yet. Mark Waden was supposed to appear in court back on 15 July. MSM has not reported what happened at that time. It could have been for a bail hearing (hopefully he didn't get bail).

It will likely take some time before there is a committal hearing in preparation for a trial. imo

I can’t find any updates on this!

I do know that his house sold some time ago and now has new owners (I live close by)....

Also, her daughter had set up a group called ‘Let’s bring Priscilla home’, and the group has been deleted. Possibly due to impending trial?

Any justice update for Priscilla? Is Covid slowing down court proceedings? Thank you Australian Websleuths in watching for any progress.

I wish Priscilla would all of sudden show up alive but since the police charged Waden with murder and body (evidence) tampering, I am guessing the investigators either found blood splatter, or Priscilla's Clothing, or evidence of recent human decomposition at the time during the dig. I am saddened by this because Priscilla and I had a close relationship in the early 1990s when we both resided in Santa Rosa, California. As you can see, she still has a special place in my heart 30 years later after losing contact with each other, and taking separate life paths, thanks to a rude room mate who did not take a proper phone message the last time Priscilla attempted to get in contact with me. Of course, she moved on when I did not return her call and probably thought I no longer wanted anything to do with her, which was far from the truth. To this day, I regret losing contact with her and I wonder if we had remain friends or more, would she be safe today? Of course, this is not to overshadow Caity's birth, family that she had, and life with her mother. Nothing worse than losing a mother to a heinous crime!
