Australian Federal Police investigating ‘terror maps’ found at Pullenvale, Brisbane, house

August 19, 2014 12:00AM

EXPLOSIVES similar to those used in the London bombings and maps pinpointing what police believe were the targets have been uncovered in a suburban Brisbane home.

The crudely drawn maps appear to pinpoint targets in Sydney and Newcastle.

The Australian Federal Police has now been called in to assist in the investigation.

Police raided the Pullenvale rental home last week after a real estate agent inspecting the property discovered explosives in the shed.

Oh my lawd, what is about Brisbane and bomb making? I was living there when this story broke in 2006 -

Teacher refused bail over bombs

John Howard Amundsen, 40, of Aspley in Brisbane's north, today faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court on one charge of fraud after allegedly obtaining 53kg of an explosive using false identification.

Police allegedly found the explosives - some manufactured into bombs with nails and razor blades embedded in them - at his home during a raid last night which forced the evacuation of about 30 surrounding homes.

CHEMICALS have been removed from a Brisbane house where a former resident was possibly planning to detonate a bomb outside one of Sydney’s busiest train stations.

A liquid explosives stockpile was found at the Pullenvale property last week, with the final stash removed today. A former resident was possibly plotting to detonate bombs with similar explosives used in the 2005 London bombings.

His former house remained sealed with police tape on Tuesday as detectives catalogued and helped remove dozens of white containers of chemicals from the garage.

Specialist officers are believed to have disposed of more than 50kg of explosives material in controlled detonations last Thursday and Friday.

Specialist X-ray equipment may be used to scan the walls and floor of the house.

The Queensland Police Service, the Australian Federal Police and Australian Defence Force personnel are sweeping the house but the three agencies were tight-lipped about their involvement on Tuesday.

Maps showing Sydney and Newcastle targets were reportedly found at the Pullenvale home of Daniel Fing (pictured).

The former tenant, Daniel Fing, is in police custody in New South Wales on unrelated matters.

Mr Fing, who is yet to be charged over the find, has a prior conviction for blowing up his ex-girlfriend’s lover's car in Newcastle.

According to Nine News, investigators located 29 kilograms of chemicals and 22 litres of liquid explosives in the Pullenvale home on Red Cedar Road.

In 2011, Mr Fing survived a drive-by shooting when a gunman allegedly opened fire at his home in Belmont, NSW.

Sounds to me like the whole family is just charming.

Thank *goodness* for that sharp-eyed real estate agent! We might have had a serial bomber on our hands, and an enormous loss of life.

Especially with the G20 coming up in November. That is most likely why AFP were very involved.

I'm seriously grateful this one is off the street!
I hope he is not out and about again soon.
