Tucson teacher arrested in child- case
July 29, 2011

"A Tucson elementary school teacher is in custody in connection with a child investigation. Tucson police say 44-year-old Joseph Chanecka surrendered at police headquarters Friday...."

"...Chanecka is a fourth-grade teacher at Van Buskirk Elementary School. In late May, detectives in the Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit say they received a report that Chanecka allegedly had images of child on his home computer. Search warrants were served at his residence and at the school. Police say thousands of child images were recovered.

An arrest warrant was issued for Chanecka on June 22, but police say he left the country for several weeks...."

A former elementary school teacher arrested after tens of thousands of pornographic images of children were found on his computer was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison and lifetime probation Monday.

Joseph Chanecka, 44, could have received as few as five or as many as 25 years in prison after pleading guilty last month to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
