Brandon Rumbaugh and Lisa Gurrieri (Yavapai County Sheriff's Office)

''PHOENIX - In 2003, Brandon Rumbaugh and his girlfriend Lisa Gurrieri were found shot to death in the back of a pick-up truck near Bumble Bee, Arizona.

17 years later, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is offering a $10,000 reward for anyone who might have information on the murderer.

The Scottsdale couple had left to go on an overnight camping trip north of Phoenix on Oct. 17, 2003 and borrowed a 2000 Ford F-150 white pickup truck.

Family and friends began to search for the pair after they did not return home the following day. Their bodies were found lying in the bed of the borrowed truck, which had been parked near Bumble Bee Road and the I-17.

Officials released photos of the couple that are believed to be the last images of them alive after they found a broken disposable camera 100 feet from the crime scene.''

''Nineteen-year-old Lisa Gurrieri's life was picture perfect. She sang in church, worked at Salt River Project, and was in love with a 20-year-old Arizona State University student Brandon Rumbaugh. The couple lived in Scottsdale.''
''In 2003, a young Scottsdale couple celebrated their first anniversary camping near Sunset Point. The location was just two miles off the Interstate 17 on Bumble Bee Road. But their lives were cut short, and the killer is still on the loose.''

''Investigators have been particularly interested in one of the final images, which mostly just features a light fixture inside an unidentified building. While it’s unclear what and where the photo was taken, officials have said they hope it could be a potential clue in the case.

Anyone with information about the double murder is asked to call 1-800-932-3232. Tips can be also be made anonymously.''

Another article—someone with a motive?

Argument may have preceded couple's death

From the article:

“Susan Quayle, a spokeswoman for the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, said investigators are seeking information from the public about the man, described as tall, "husky," white, possibly 40 years old and wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. "They're looking for information either from this person or about this person," Quayle said. "There was an argument that took place. I don't know if they're looking for them as a suspect or an investigative lead."

Interesting, from link- thanks..

"They're looking for information either from this person or about this person," Quayle said. "There was an argument that took place. I don't know if they're looking for them as a suspect or an investigative lead."

''The man and Rumbaugh may have been arguing in the doorway of the couple's apartment at the Scottsdale Greens, 7791 E. Osborn Road. Quayle said it's possible the argument occurred at about 10 p.m. a day or more before Gurrieri and Rumbaugh left on Oct. 17 to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their first date at the remote but popular desert spot.''

I’m having trouble uploading the photo. Any thoughts on the last one with the light fixture?

Ok, taking a look at the last photo on the disposable camera, which I think you uploaded (could be my user error that I can’t see it!) Anyway, a few things stand out to me. I circled “what are they?” spots in yellow. One looks to be some plant matter, a vine creeping into the structure? Or maybe a a plant or a fake plant. Right behind that there’s an odd 11 shape (could this be a reflection from a pot the plant, an artifact or something else?)

One of the most intriguing spots in the photo is what looks to be distinctive pattern on the ceiling (if that is the ceiling). It looks to me like a patch of peeling paint. It’s the same sort of pattern that you see in heavily weathered paint on ceilings in older buildings or abandoned places (although the light is on, so I doubt it’s abandoned). anyhow, it’s a unique sort of pattern that you see after long decades of disuse and disrepair.

It looks like there’s a small window (I drew in a blue arrow pointing to this), to my eye-almost like a basement window-small and rectangular. What I can’t figure out is the pattern on it (it doesn’t really look like a curtain or bars. Could it be a painted-on pattern or something sort of stained glass designs?!). I circled in red more damage by the “window.” It looks like a split in the window frame, either from neglect or time.

The light fixture itself looks old (I’m guessing 50s -60s that would hang from a ceiling). It’s vaguely utilitarian-like something you’d have in a shed, garage or basement—not there for “looks” but just to give off light. I’m assume it’s metal.

The black and white bar on either side of the photo is odd to me. The white bar looks like the blaze of a flash hitting something close and you can see the faint outline of the hanging light jutting into it. I’d almost guess the white bar is from a door casing, as though someone is taking the picture from inside another doorway, but the angle seems wrong for that. So maybe the bar means nothing at all. I can’t say anything about the black bar on the other side. Is this due to film processing? I don’t know enough about that to make an assumption.

It strikes me as odd that all the photos are black and white. When I had a disposable cameras waaay back in the late 90’s early 2000’s, I always opted for color because, why not have color, if you could? I don’t recall if black and white being a common choice, but it could just be an “artistic” choice. Not sure why that struck me as odd, but it did. It likely doesn’t mean much.

Interesting...I thought I was losing it. I had the vague notion of seeing something else-a grid like pattern at the bottom of the photo, but couldn’t find it when I went back to inspect the photo more closely. On another search, I found the original photo, which hadn’t been cropped yet— and there was the structure or grid.

Is this a basket or some sort of metal grid? I’ve marked a yellow arrow pointing to it. I also notice a crescent shape below, which could be an artifact (marked with a red arrow).

Yeah, it really is. The weird pattern on the window is very odd. Buuut...I just can’t be sure what I’m looking at.

Bumble Bee Road, where they were found, looks to be pretty close to a very tiny town of a handful of buildings way out in the middle of nowhere.
Seems like someone would’ve heard something that night...but then again you might assume the noise was nothing.

I wonder if there are more pics that haven’t been released. From the MSM article it seems to allude there is a picture with both of the couple in it, the final picture of them alive.
This is the pic.i think is referred to as the last photo of the couple, the body language/position is a bit odd, imo. especially Brandon's crossed armed and exaggerated "man-spread". speculation.

Yes his photo is very weird. Hers looked pretty normal, but outside in the dark makes it seem weird as well, and the fact there is just a blanket... no pillows or bedding or drink, etc... I wonder Why they didn’t do a picture together a “selfie”... I remember doing those on disposable cameras. There is also the missing camcorder as well.

$10K reward issued for '03 double murder cold case near Bumble Bee
''BUMBLE BEE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Nearly 18 years after a double murder near Bumble Bee, Yavapai County investigators are offering up a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

On Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, Brandon Rumbaugh and his girlfriend, Lisa Gurrieri, left Scottsdale for an overnight camping trip north of Phoenix. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says the couple borrowed a white 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck and were expected to return home the following day. They never made it back.''

''Family and friends became concerned and began to search for them. YCSO says the couple's bodies were discovered in the bed of the borrowed truck. Rumbaugh and Gurrieri had been shot to death. The truck was found in a dirt parking area off Bumble Bee Road, a short distance from Interstate 17.

Investigators noted that a borrowed video camera was missing from the scene, although its case was left behind. Also, deputies found a broken disposable camera about 100 feet away from the truck. Some photos were intact. One of the photos showed the couple in the back of the truck. Authorities believe it is the last photo of them alive. YCSO said there was also a photograph of a light fixture on the inside of a building. Detectives are still trying to determine where it was taken.''

The object in the background of the "building" photo that's next to the window (?) appears to be either a telescope or an industrial tripod floor lamp. If you look closely, the tripod casts a shadow on the wall. The ceiling is either damaged or has some sort of "knockdown texture" applied. The industrial pendant light doesn't necessarily have to be an outdoor fixture; it could easily fit into an interior mid-century modern or industrial design style. As another commenter remarked, the thing in the foreground looks like some type of metal organizer. IMO, everything in this photo could be consistent with a living room, office, or bedroom...but where?

''Every passing year for Paula Gurrieri is tougher than the one before. It brings back memories from Oct.17, 2003.

"They were my kids," Gurrieri, Lisa's mother, said during a 2003 interview with ABC15.''

''Investigators collected a disposable camera from the scene. It turned out to be key evidence in the case, showing them the moments right before their murders. It held the last photos ever taken of the two. Lisa's mother thinks it could have been a sign of what was to come.''
"It wasn't her smile... it was like she was scared and she was smiling," says Gurrieri.

There are still persons of interest in the case but no arrests have ever been made.''

''Those options include using a new piece of equipment for retesting evidence, which can extract massive amounts of DNA from certain objects. Then, they can find the right lab to send that to.

"Figure out who has the highest probability of getting us the results that lead us to the person responsible," says Lt. Boelts.''

I was looking at the lamp picture. I used a couple of different photo effects.

Right above the lamp there appears to be letters...it just kind floats there or pops out strongly. Looks like there are few letters that appear to read GES. There appears to be more letters above it or somekind of graffiti. Just below the lamp looks like more letters...maybe the word NOT? I was trying to figure out why I would see letters just floating there and bright spots. It could be some kind of over exposure. But as I was lying in bed I happen to notice my mirror reflecting the top of my bedroom door edge. Kinda the same position as the window in the picture. It occured to me that maybe the person who took the picture was laying down and took a picture of the mirror's reflection. I turned my phone camera on to test my theory and it appears to fit. Maybe some of those bright spots appear because of a bright reflection or camera flash and not necessarily overexposure.

I was trying to figure out the window part. Looks to be a curtain rod with a short curtain hung & pulled over. However, the window appears to have bars on the outside. Some older homes carry those old window bars to protect their homes.
Between the window & curtain also appears to be a figurine. Like a toy figure that resembles maybe Robin or batman? The figure looks like it has a head, mask, belt, arms and thick legs spread out. Perhaps just displayed there or hanging over. I know it's a long shot but when you enlarge it, it really looks like a toy figure.

Below does look like some kind of house plant. I looked up house vines and many people display them hanging down long and loosely. Can't tell if the stuff near the bottom of the photo is a basket?

All so interesting. This case has always had my interest, along with Mikelle Biggs.

Hey everyone,

I'm Frank, I'm a medically retired mechanic from Philadelphia who mostly holds down a chair these days. I saw this case profiled on TV awhile back. I visited the sheriff's website and grabbed copies of the pictures in evidence because something about the mysterious one bothered me. I just found it in a folder on my computer and the memory finally tripped! I can tell you, to the best of my ability, what I see pictured in this image.

The peeping Tom is looking through the window over the kitchen sink of a ca. late 1960's-early 1970's single wide, one bed/one bath trailer that has had a replacement window installed in the dining area. The oddness happening on the ceiling is due to the factory contact paper over Masonite board shrinking and pulling away because it got wet. I've attached a picture grabbed from Zillow of a similar trailer's kitchen (weirdly enough in Apache Junction in a MHP - getting tough to find these old sardine cans anymore, at least in original condition). The window he is peeping through is to the left of the fridge in the realtor's pic. The perp would have been around the back of the trailer when this picture was snapped.

The lamp is a cheap Home Depot-style glass pendant over the dining table, exactly where the junction box was placed in the ceiling by the factory. They came in several outer primary colors, white underneath, and cost around $30 at the time if not less.

A pot is hanging to the right of the window with ivy hanging down over the back of what looks to be a 1950's-60's vintage Cosco brand step stool, likely there to help with watering the plant. What appears to be a black wire tea tray is sitting on the top step. This tray has a stitch-type decoration around the sides, much like the zig-zag stripe on the front of Charlie Brown's shirt in Peanuts. Picture of a comparable step stool is attached.

The bright comma near the "shoulder" in the reflection of the perp is light reflecting off the top of a kitchen sink spigot. The shape and placement make sense.

There is something on the table, like a salt shaker, that is causing the bright spot among the ivy leaves.

It appears to me that there is a plate stand and maybe a figurine on the window sill. The plate stand (easel type) rests against the right side of the window frame, folded closed. To the best of my worsening eyesight, the figurine appears to be a seated boy with his head down. It looks to me like he is dressed like a baseball player (I think his hair is peeking out from under a ball cap and his pants look baggy and wrinkled). I've attached a picture of a similar figurine, though this also has a kid standing. It may be half of a broken figurine, which would explain its orientation on the sill - the broken side is towards the window. I believe it looks a lot like a figurine made in 1989 by Paul Sebastian Porcelain titled "Home Run Boys." It is 9" tall including the standing boy. If it's not this one, I think it'll have a similar shape.

It looks to me like the trailer was maybe abandoned or empty for awhile, or was a fixer-upper, then fitted with the lamp and new window with integral blinds to get it ready for habitation. However, the owner did not replace the original ceiling panels, opting instead to paint the mess (possibly causing the contact paper to wrinkle). There is also a good chance that the roof leaked at some point, at least in the kitchen/dining area. The support trim between the panels was painted as well. The window was likely made for a full depth stud wall, not the thin walls of a trailer, and would have needed to be framed in by someone who knew what they were doing, judging by the depth of the window frame.

The window through which the perp is peering has an old aluminum screen in it, not a gauzy curtain. The streaks are the oxidation that occurs over time where rainwater runs over it from off the roof or were caused by the outside paint turning to chalk and washing down over it. If you zoom in very close, the weave can be seen. Maybe someone better than I with Photoshop can match the spacing and remove the screen from the picture?

I've been studying this creepy picture for awhile now, and I know this is what I'm seeing. Both my grandfather and several of my friends lived in period trailers very like this one and I've seen a similar view over the sink firsthand. I recognize that type of ceiling and step stool, one of those stools broke under me ages ago. I've attached a few pictures (from Zillow and Etsy) showing what I'm talking about.

Your mileage may vary, of course. I hope my memory flashes and thoughts jogs someone else's memory too. I hope this helps get this one solved.
