Fourteen-year-old Emily Pike was last seen on January 27 near Mesa Drive and McKellips Rd. in Mesa, Ariz. She is a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe, which has a reservation in rural Eastern Arizona. The main town on the rez is probably two hours east of Mesa.
Her body was found about 20 miles northeast of Globe, Ariz. on Forest Service Road 355 off Highway 60. It was near milepost 277. The body was dismembered and placed in several garbage bags. Those were found on February 14.
The location of her remains was near the rez, about two hours from where she was last seen. Globe is the closest town that's not located on the San Carlos Apache Reservation. It's about 20 minutes west of the town of San Carlos.
News reports indicate that she left on foot from her "home" in Mesa in January. A post on her mother's Facebook page mentions staff of group homes learning to be more aware, so "home" may not have been with her parents. I am not linking to her mom's social media or putting her name out there.
I was born and raised in the Globe-Miami area, so this hits home. I can't find any stories from before her body was found, although the Mesa PD did have a social media post about her disappearance. So sad that no one who might have seen her on the rez or in town was even aware she was missing. All the links below are about the discovery of the body and the aftermath.
