Gretchen White was a 23 year old ASU senior majoring in textiles when she was killed by an unknown assailant who ran her over with her own car in a high school parking lot miles away from her apartment. She lived in an apartment off campus at Priest and Broadway in Tempe and told her fellow Cloth World employees she was going home to study for a test the next morning. This was the last time she was seen alive. In the early morning hours neighbors at the apartment reported hearing a male voice outside Gretchen's door shouting for her to let him in. Police found Gretchen's car parked in an unusual area of the complex from where she normally parked it.

The killer was never identified as nobody came forward despite the case airing multiple times on John Walsh's Americas' Most Wanted. It is one of 3 cold cases involving ASU students that hasn't been solved yet and hopefully we can help change that by getting the word out on this case.

27-year-old murder of ASU co-ed remains unsolved

One of the articles mentions that the killer wiped down the interior of the car with a cloth left in the back seat, (not sure how they know he used that cloth?) so no prints. I don’t know if that rag would still have touch dna on it, but I hope LE is attempting to test it. If he were sweating & rubbing vigorously to erase those prints, there could be a good possibility for a full or partial profile. Sounds like they know just who to follow around for a discarded cup/cigarette/gum wad too.
Touch DNA. What is it? Where is it? How much can be found? And, how can it impact my case? | Ryan Forensic

Greetings @DesertSleuth,
This case is solved. The host of the true crime podcast, Already Gone requested the file for this case, and said that it had been "solved by arrest". The man who did this is already serving a very long sentence for being a serial rapist, so they don't plan on trying him. You can read about his 1994 trial in the news article listed below. He tried to claim that he had multiple personalities to get off, but it didn't work. He was sentenced to 84 years.

This article doesn’t tie James Carlson to GW’s murder. Is there another article that lists his victims?
