Goodman was last seen at 8:25 p.m. on March 28, 2003, purchasing groceries at Ed's Market in Snowflake, Arizona. She apparently drove back to her home after shopping and turned on her television, and was missed the next morning when she failed to show up for work. Authorities believe she was abducted from her home on the morning of March 29.

The sliding glass door to Goodman's residence was found ajar and the outdoor floodlights were on. Inside, the television set was on. Everything she owned was left behind in the house, including billfold and all her shoes. Her work van was parked in its usual place; her daughter had borrowed her other vehicle. There was no sign of a struggle inside the residence.

After Goodman's disappearance, authorities began to look closely at Patrick Michael Conn, 44, who lived along Goodman's mail route. The two had a confrontation in early 2002 and Goodman said she was afraid of Conn. In February 2002, a Snowflake man named Donald Sewell was shot thirteen times; his body was found in his car along the side of State Route 77 in the undeveloped northern part of Snowflake. Conn is the prime suspect in Sewell's homicide.

Conn has since disappeared; he may be in Hocking County, Ohio, where he has relatives. Authorities are also interested in speaking to a Snowflake area handyman who was hired to repair Goodman's television set a month before she disappeared. He brought it back still broken and Goodman mentioned she felt uncomfortable around the man. The man is now in police custody on drug charges unrelated to Goodman's apparent abduction.

Goodman was born and raised in the Snowflake area. She is a widow with four children. She also had eighteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren at the time of her disappearance. Her family says they were very important to her and she would not voluntarily leave them without warning.

Goodman has work experience as a teacher's aide. At the time of her disappearance, she was employed with the Snowflake Post Office as a rural mail carrier. She was due to retire from her mail route in July 2003. Goodman enjoys quilting and is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was in excellent health at the time of her disappearance.

The case remains unsolved and foul play is suspected. Goodman's family held a memorial service for her in September 2008, five and a half years after her disappearance.

FWIW, earlier this summer (possibly May) I went to a yard sale, I think about 5-6 miles east of Snowflake. The man running it started talking to me about this case after we'd talked about some break-ins in the area. He said that nobody had liked this woman, and said that he found her to be very unfriendly and never liked her. Then he said he'd heard that her body had probably been fed to some pigs, and that pigs will eat a body and not leave a trace. I don't know if that's true. There are herds of pigs in the area. There was something in the look on his face that gave me the creeps. I found an excuse to leave. This conversation disturbed me, but I've kept it to myself until now. I hope they solve this some day.

You should definitely report this conversation to the local authorities, while it might be nothing, you never know... Odd conversation to have so many years after this happened

Not sure I want to stir anything up, but the conversation did bother me. At the risk of saying something I shouldn't re: hurting the feelings of any victims, he did say he was glad she's gone. I have a general idea where his place was out of town, but it's been a while and I don't think I'd find the right roads again if I wanted to retrace my steps. Without knowing who he is or where he lives, the police really can't do anything. But maybe by bumping this thread, someone else might chime in with information, who knows.

Human remains found near Snowflake

NAVAJO COUNTY — The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of a human skull found off of San Carlos Road east of Snowflake on June 29.

A July 2 press release from NCSO Public Information Officer Tori Gorman stated that the skull was found by a person rock hunting in a remote area who called and reported it to law enforcement.

“Navajo County Search and Rescue, Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers, Navajo County Criminal Investigations and the Medical Examiners Office conducted a search of the area. The remains that were found were turned over to the Medical Examiners Office,” Gorman stated in the press release.

She said the case is still under investigation.

The area east of Snowflake is known for having crime problems, and other bodies have been found in the past. Hope they solve this one day.
