She did not return to the the commercial bus that she rode up on after the visit to the Grand Canyon.

Martha Overholser, who was on a commercial tour, was last seen on Dec. 10 at Mather Point on the canyon's South Rim in Arizona, according to the National Park Service.

Mather Point, a famous lookout, is a brief walk from the Grand Canyon Visitor Center. Overholser is believed to have walked west from the Mather Point area, possibly toward the Bright Angel Lodge or Hermits Rest, according to the National Park Service.

She failed to return to the bus tour.

Strange that no one observed anything. It’s a busy area.

Bright Angel Lodge is a hotel and cabins. Hermits Rest quickly becomes a very narrow route cut into the rock, but you would not accidentally end up on that part bc it's visibly not for strolling across. Even the beginning where it's wider gets very steep quickly. It's absolutely not a beginner route, nor for unprepared hikers on a bus tour.
MOO based on hiking Hermits Rest.

Her phone was located below the rim along Hermit Road at an overlook called The Abyss, which is located about 10 miles west of Mather Point, a Grand Canyon spokesperson told FOX Weather.

A description of The Abyss at the Grand Canyon. This makes me fear for her even more.

So her phone was found 10 MILES from where she was last seen by the bus?! I just can’t fathom that even if lost or disoriented, she’d make it 10 miles before toppling over, if that’s what happened. Let me see if I can find a map.

Map below sourced from:

It looks like it’s certainly along the south rim trail, but what a long trek for her to have made.
My thoughts exactly! I was up there 5 years ago today (thanks, facebook) and it was incredibly cold. We did not walk ten miles though we were outside for a long time. Hot drinks all around after that!

Has anyone found any updates on this case from the Grand Canyon National Park Service? I am unable to find anything. Also, have there been any posts from family?
There's been no updates in six days and I couldn't find any information from family or anything back in her home state as far as any cognitive issues. 66 is a bit young for dementia IMO, but it's not unheard of, even younger than that.

What's posted above is what is posted on the NPS Grand Canyon site.

I follow a lot of NPS sites as an avid hiker. I have not seen anything posted about her.
