[h=1]Unidentified body found off Control Road[/h]

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office says it needs help identifying the body of a man found off the Control Road north of Payson.


Horseback riders found the body on April 28 off Forest Road 64.


The man’s body was lying on the ground, fully clothed, but with its shoes off, said Det. Sgt. David Hornung.


“It is weird, it almost looks like he sat down, took off his shoes and just never got up,” he said.


There were no bags around or identification.


The man is described as a white male ranging in age from late 20s to 60s, 5 feet, 7 inches, 135 pounds with a slender build; blond hair, scruffy beard and mustache.


It appears the body was lying there for approximately one week.

I was thinking it might be someone who got lost and died from the heat or starvation/lack of water. If he was wandering for a while his feet might have hurt. I can see someone taking off their shoes to rest for a bit, but dying soon after from the elements. Heart attack or other natural causes are just as likely I suppose. If a hiker suddenly didn't feel well they might stop to rest and never recover. JMO.
